Krājumā ievietotie raksti veltīti Latvijas Universitātē pārstāvēto zinātņu vēstures izpētei - kā atsevišķām zinātnes nozarēm un specialitātēm laikposmā kopš universitātes dibināšanas līdz mūsdienām, tā arī zinātniskiem kolektīviem, institūtiem, katedrām, zinātniskām skolām un virzieniem, tāpat pazīstamiem LU mācībspēkiem un pētniekiem, viņu dzīvei, darbībai un ieguldījumam augstskolas virzībā. Daļa rakstu veltīta zinātņu vēsturei Latvijā laikposmā pirms LU nodibināšanas, lai parādītu arī to pamatu un saknes, no kurām izauga mūsu pirmā nacionālā augstskola.

On Defining the Participatory Museum: The Case of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk
2021
This article seeks to contribute to the current debate on the new definition of the “museum” – a debate which led to turmoil at the 2019 ICOM General Assembly in Kyoto. With reference to the case study of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk (MSWW), it analyses the new and very successful genre of the narrative museum, a genre which arguably fulfils the core elements of the definition currently being discussed by ICOM. In this regard, it brings into focus the paramount importance of community involvement in creating and managing narrative museums – an aspect that has been virtually absent in the academic and media debates over the nature of the MSWW and its programme. By pointing ou…

2012
This article is the English version of “Museos para todos. It was not published on the print version of MonTI for reasons of space. The online version of MonTI does not suffer from these limitations, and this is our way of promoting plurilingualism. Audiovisual Translation (AVT) has a scientific responsibility to develop analytical methodologies for the textual phenomenon of multimodality, and for the translation strategies associated with it. At the same time, it should aim to provide studies of universal accessibility wi…
Museums for all: translation and interpreting for multimodal spaces as a tool for universal accessibility
2012
Audiovisual Translation (AVT) has a scientific responsibility to develop analytical methodologies for the textual phenomenon of multimodality, and for the translation strategies associated with it. At the same time, it should aim to provide studies of universal accessibility with a powerful tool for facilitating access to knowledge. This article offers some reflections on the theoretical foundations of AVT and considers how these are projected in the creation of new professional profiles, with specific application to universal accessibility in the museums.
