Partitioning study of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons between water and some selected water-insoluble phases

An investigation on the partitioning of naphthalene and phenanthrene between water and some water-insoluble phases has been carried out by Uv-vis-NIR spectrophotometry. The analysis of the experimental results emphasized the role of intermolecular interactions and structural features of the hosting phases as driving forces of the partitioning of these polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The critical comparison of the resulting distribution constants allowed to evaluate the potentials of some extracting phases to set up sensitive analytical methods and/or effective environment remediation technologies.

Production of CSSi013-A (9360) iPSC line from an asymptomatic subject carrying an heterozygous mutation in TDP-43 protein

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease affecting both upper and lower motoneurons. The transactive response DNA binding protein (TARDBP) gene, encoding for TDP-43, is one of the most commonly mutated gene associated with familial cases of ALS (10%). We generated a human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) line from the fibroblasts of an asymptomatic subject carrying the TARDBP p.G376D mutation. This mutation is very rare and was described in a large Apulian family, in which all ALS affected members are carriers of the mutation. The subject here described is the first identified asymptomatic carrier of the mutation.

A spontaneous mitonuclear epistasis converging on Rieske Fe-S protein exacerbates complex III deficiency in mice

We previously observed an unexpected fivefold (35 vs. 200 days) difference in the survival of respiratory chain complex III (CIII) deficient Bcs1lp.S78G mice between two congenic backgrounds. Here, we identify a spontaneous homoplasmic mtDNA variant (m.G14904A, mt-Cybp.D254N), affecting the CIII subunit cytochrome b (MT-CYB), in the background with short survival. We utilize maternal inheritance of mtDNA to confirm this as the causative variant and show that it further decreases the low CIII activity in Bcs1lp.S78G tissues to below survival threshold by 35 days of age. Abstract The Colorectal Cancer Subtyping Consortium identified four gene expression consensus molecular subtypes, CMS1 (immune), CMS2 (canonical), CMS3 (metabolic), and CMS4 (mesenchymal), using multiple microarray or RNA-sequencing datasets of primary tumor samples mainly from early stage colon cancer patients. Targeted disruption of the peroxisomal thiolase B gene in mouse: a new model to study disorders related to peroxisomal lipid metabolism

The peroxisomal beta-oxidation system consists of four steps catalysed by three enzymes: acyl-CoA oxidase, 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA hydratase/3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (multifunctional enzyme) and thiolase. In humans, thiolase activity is encoded by one gene, whereas in rodents, three enzymes encoded by three distinct genes (i.e. thiolase A, thiolase B and SCP2/thiolase) catalyse the thiolase activity. Suppression of humoral immune response against herpes simplex virus induced by defective strains, ts- and TK- mutants.

Suppression of humoral antibody formation against HSV is not only induced by replicating Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) but also by the defective strain ANG and the deletion mutant 1301 of Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Moreover, ts-mutants A, H, K, S, 1201 and 1208 of HSV-1 as well as some ts-mutants of HSV-2 and “defective-interfering” particles of HSV-1 after high multiplicity of infection-passages induced suppression. New flow-multicommutation method for the photo-chemiluminometric determination of the carbamate pesticide asulam

This paper deals with a straightforward automated method for the determination of asulam in water based on the use of a flow manifold including three computer-controlled solenoid valves. The method involves irradiating on an aqueous solution of asulam in glycine buffer at pH 8.3 with UV light during 90 s, then follows the oxidation with potassium permanganate in a sulphuric medium and chemiluminescence-based detection of the resulting photoproducts.
