Bioactive Constituents of Juniperus turbinata Guss. from La Maddalena Archipelago.
2018
A comprehensive phytochemical study of Juniperus turbinata (Cupressaceae) collected from La Maddalena Archipelago (Sardinia, Italy) is reported. Both the essential oil and the ethanolic extract obtained from the aerial parts were analyzed. The essential oil appears to belong to a new chemotype compared to other Mediterranean juniper accessions, as it was favored by geographic isolation of the isles. It showed a low content of monoterpene hydrocarbons and -terpineol, ent-manoyl oxide, 1,10-di-epi-cubenol as the major constituents. The ethanolic fraction contained mainly diterpenoids. Among these, 15-formyloxyimbricatolic acid (7) is a new natural product since it has hitherto been obtained o…
Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire in patients with dentofacial deformity
2021
Due to the lack of a specific quality of life (QoL) survey on dentofacial deformities (DFD) for Turkish speakers, the present research aimed to perform a translation of the English version of the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) into Turkish (the OQLQ-TR) and provide cultural adaptation to the Turkish population. The process of this cross-cultural adaptation followed the six stages given in the guidelines that were proposed by Beaton et al. (2000), which comprised the following: 1) performing the initial translation, 2) synthesizing the translation, 3) performing the back translation, 4) presenting it to the expert committee, and 5) testing the prefinal version. Throughout …
SWALLOWING, SPEECH AND OROFACIAL DISORDERS IN CHILDREN WITH ADENOTONSILLAR HYPERTROPHY
2022
A prospective observational study was conducted to evaluate the presence of swallowing, speech and orofacial muscle imbalance (OMI) disorders in patients with adenotonsillar hypertrophy and their regression after surgery. ENT, speech therapist and dentistry examination were conducted before and 12 months after surgery in 78 children between the ages of 2 and 12 with dysphagia, speech disorders and OMI adenotonsillar hypertrophy related with sleep-disordered breathing. Of the 78 patients enrolled, 62 underwent adenotonsillectomy, 9 adenoidectomy and 7 volume reduction of the palatine tonsils with a 12-month post-operative increase in SWAL-QOL score, weight gain, correction of ogival palate, …
Knowledge assets for internationalization strategy proposal
2021
[EN] Lack of trust, lack of references and the confidential nature of cybersecurity projects make internationalization in companies from the cybersecurity sector a great challenge. The development of lean methodologies over recent years has presented a method to reduce time and effort, measure performance in each step and pivot when it is necessary to apply a process to a different field. Considering that internationalization resembles entrepreneurship, because of uncertainty and risk in a new market where the value proposition should be validated, the Lean Start-up philosophy will serve as a theoretical framework in which to operate. The study of international challenges of cybersecurity c…
Eliciting Information on the Vulnerability Black Market from Interviews
2010
Threats to computing prompted by software vulnerabilities are abundant and costly for those affected. Adding to this problem is the emerging vulnerability black markets (VBMs), since they become places to trade malware and exploits. VBMs are discussed based on information derived from interviews with security researchers. The effort is enriched by further examination of documents surrounding the disclosure of four selected vulnerabilities cases. The result suggests that the VBMs is bifurcated into two distinct parts; the skilled-hacker and the script-kiddie VBMs with a possible link between them, where the latter become places to sell malware or exploit kits after the zero day vulnerability…
Structure-activity relationships of polymethoxyflavones and other flavonoids as inhibitors of non-enzymic lipid peroxidation
1990
Polymethoxylated flavones and C-glycosyl derivatives isolated from medicinal plants besides other flavonoid compounds were studied for their influence on lipid peroxidation induced by FeSO4+ cysteine in rat liver microsomes. A number of hydroxyflavones (e.g. luteolin); C-glycosyl-flavones (e.g. orientin); methoxyflavones (e.g. gardenin D) and flavonols (e.g. datiscetin), as well as the flavanol leucocyanidol and the biflavone amentoflavone behaved as inhibitors of non-enzymic lipid peroxidation. Structure-activity relationships were established and it was observed that the structural features for active polyhydroxylated compounds were different from those of polymethoxylated flavones, antip…
The Value of Auditor Industry Specialization: Evidence from a Structural Model
2021
ABSTRACT This study investigates the value of auditor industry specialization. In the first step, we use a discrete choice model to derive the first-order demand for auditor industry specialization. Our results reveal that clients have a general preference for auditor industry specialization, relating to both audit firm and audit office specialization. We observe that specializations at the audit firm and audit office level are substitutes. We also find that larger, more complex clients have a stronger demand for industry specialization at the audit office level. In the second step, we use the results from the discrete choice model to quantify the value of auditor industry specialists for c…
The ICT-Supported Unified Process Model of Offshore Outsourcing of Software Production: Exploratory Examination and Validation
2007
Various important benefits can be achieved through the successful management of offshore outsourcing. Numerous studies exist on outsourcing in general, yet the vast majority of extant literature on offshore outsourcing has dealt with information technology (IT) outsourcing from the client's perspective. Several frameworks, focusing on guiding information systems managers in relation to IT outsourcing, have been developed. However, none of these frameworks attempted to provide a holistic guideline to manage the entire process of offshore outsourcing of software production. There is a significant lack of studies dealing with the management of offshore outsourcing of software production from …
Modulation of the Antiviral 2-5A System in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1-Infected CEM Cells by Propentofylline
1996
2′,5′-OIigoadenylates (2-5A) play an essential role in the establishment of the antiviral state of cells exposed to virus infection. However, - after an initial increase observed in some cell lines - the activity of the interferon (IFN)-inducible, 2-5A-forming 2′,5′-oligoadenylate synthetase (2-5A synthetase) strongly decreases soon after infection of cells with the human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1). In the present report, we show that in IFN-treated human T lymphoblastoid CEM cells, the decrease in 2-5A synthetase activity had already occurred at day 1 post infection (p.i.)- At days 3 and 5 p.i., the 2-5A synthetase activity in the IFN-treated infected cells amounted to only 10-12% of…
