Madonie, L'arte e la storia

2021

Il volume esamina il patrimonio storico artistico dei seguenti paesi delle Madonie: Caltavuturo, Castelbuono, Cefalù, Collesano, Geraci Siculo, Gangi, Gratteri, Isnello, Petralia Soprana, Petralia Sottana, Polizzi Generosa, Pollina, San Mauro Castelverde e Sclafani Bagni. Bronze Sculptures and Lead Objects Tell Stories About Their Creators: Investigation of Renaissance Sculptures and Ancient Ingots by Means of Neutron …

2016

Renaissance bronze objects from the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) col- lection and lead ingots from ancient roman shipwrecks found near Sicily (Italy) were studied by means of neutron tomography. This was done with the aim to visualize and to measure the inner structures of the objects. In this way information about the manufacturing processes in the 16th century and the conservation status from the inside of the bronze sculptures was gained. Inscriptions found under the corrosion layer of the lead ingots gave hints about the trade routes in the past. Neutron imaging was proven perfect to transmit the relatively thick layers of Pb and Cu alloys while ceramic remains, soldering connections and cor…

Knowledge engineering and semantic formalism of symbolic relations. From medieval network to web 3.0

2020

A search has always been at the center of human concerns, the one of conditions and means to represent, to control well, and to communicate effectively with his environment. While technological advances and electronic gadgets such as smartphones, the Web, and online social networks currently allow addressing this concern, it has not always been the case. Our works in this thesis treat medieval documents considered as a medium of communication and as a model of the social network in the Middle Ages. These documents are called medieval illuminations. They were luxurious paintings used in that time to represent the environment and ideal world for elites such as prince, duke, etc. Those paintin…

Giraldi e Pigna sui romanzi: una polemica in contesto

2013

The essay reconstructs the polemic between Giraldi and Pigna as a generational and ideological gap: Giraldi and Pigna are seen in their dialogue with their literary interlocutors (Castelvetro, Speroni, Bocchi), against the background of the historical transition from humanistic culture, founded on the primacy of history and trust in nature, to a new philosophical culture, characterized by a disposition towards allegory and a process of professionalization of intellectual works.

Ariosto’s Religion

2022

To many readers of Orlando Furioso, Ariosto appears to be essentially disinterested in religious matters, a poet who thinks religion and morality should be kept away from literary creation. However, in this paper I will argue that Ariosto, far from being a-religious, or even un-Christian, was deeply engaged with contemporary religious debates. And without understanding this, it is impossible to comprehend Ariosto’s historical location. The author of a 1498 letter to Aldo Manuzio, where he requested Marsilio Ficino’s hermetic books on behalf of his fellow ferrarese literati, Ariosto needs to be read against the background of his own culture: he was walking the roads of Ferrara when Savonarol…

In his work De…
