Il Breviario di Simone Beccadelli della Cattedrale di Palermo (1453). Stagione 2: de Lignamine e Riggio
2022
(XV-XVII sec.) An illuminated Breviarium by several hands variously recognized is referred to Archbishop Beccadelli. The work reconstructs, by identifying two post-package coats of arms not belonging to the patron (1. embossed on the concave cut, 2. c. VIv), as many unpublished hand transitions of the ms. (15th-17th cent.)
2013
In the last century, the Virgin of Louvain, a small panel offered in 1588 by the city of Louvain to the king Philip II of Spain, raised some questions. Attributed to Jean Gossart (called Mabuse) at the time of its sending in Spain at the end of the sixteenth century, the painting was the object of incessant discussions in the term of which the authorship of the work was revised to be finally given to Bernard van Orley because of the figuration of the Virgin. If the style of the Renaissance architecture which appears behind the Madonna was for the historians of the time a characteristic of both artists, its study point to Van Orley as the true author of the painting, also revealing the artis…

Tellurite-dependent blackening of bacteria emerges from the dark ages
2019
Environmental contextAlthough tellurium is a relatively rare element in the earth’s crust, its concentration in some niches can be naturally high owing to unique geology. Tellurium, as the oxyanion, is toxic to prokaryotes, and although prokaryotes have evolved resistance to tellurium, no universal mechanism exists. We review the interaction of tellurite with prokaryotes with a focus on those unique strains that thrive in environments naturally rich in tellurium. AbstractThe timeline of tellurite prokaryotic biology and biochemistry is now over 50 years long. Its start was in the clinical microbiology arena up to the 1970s. The 1980s saw the cloning of tellurite resistance determinants whil…
