Self-Assembled DNA-Based Structures for Nanoelectronics
2023
Recent developments in structural DNA nanotechnology have made com-plex and spatially exactly controlled self-assembled DNA nanoarchitectureswidely accessible. The available methods enable large variety of differ-ent possible shapes combined with the possibility of using DNA structuresas templates for high-resolution patterning of nano-objects, thus openingup various opportunities for diverse nanotechnological applications. TheseDNA motifs possess enormous possibilities to be exploited in realization ofmolecular scale sensors and electronic devices, and thus, could enable fur-ther miniaturization of electronics. However, there are arguably two mainissues on making use of DNA-based electroni…
NIR laser scanning microscopy for photophysical characterization of upconversion nanoparticles and nanohybrids
2021
Photophysical characterization of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and nanohybrids (UCNHs) is more challenging than that of down-conversion nanomaterials. Moreover, it is still difficult to gain knowledge about the homogeneity of the sample and colocalization of emissive chromophores and nanoparticles in nanohybrids. Near infrared laser scanning microscopy (NIR-LSM) is a well-known and useful imaging technique, which enables excitation in the NIR region and has been extensively applied to optical fluorescence imaging of organic fluorophores and nanomaterials, such as quantum dots, which exhibit a short-lived emission. NIR-LSM has recently been used to determine the empirical emission life…
Influence of Nanoclay Additive on Mechanical Properties of Bio-Based Polyurethane Nanocomposites
2013
This paper is about investigation of the bio-based polyurethanes from the rapeseed oil polyols and their modification with montmorillonite nanoparticles. The results of hardness and tensile properties investigation of polyurethane / montmorillonite nanocomposites are presented.
From Single Molecules to Nanoscopically Structured Functional Materials
2006
AbstractThe synthesis of MS2 (M = Mo, W) onion-like nanoparticles by means of a high temperature MOCVD process starting from W(CO)6 and elemental sulfur is reported. The reaction can also be carried out in two steps where the intermediate amorphous WS2 nanoparticles formed through the high temperature reaction of tungsten and sulfur in the initial phase of the reaction are isolated and converted in a separate annealing step to onion-type WS2 nanoparticles. Based on a study of the temperature dependence of the reaction a set of conditions could be derived where onion-like structures were formed in a one-step reaction. Onion-like structures obtained in the single-step process were filled, whe…
Simple New Method for the Preparation of La(IO3)3 Nanoparticles
2020
We present a cost- and time-efficient method for the controlled preparation of single phase La(IO3)3 nanoparticles via a simple soft-chemical route which takes a matter of hours, thereby providing an alternative to the common hydrothermal method which takes days. Nanoparticles of pure α-La(IO3)3 and pure δ-La(IO3)3 were synthesised via the new method depending on the source of iodate ions, thereby demonstrating the versatility of the synthesis route. The crystal structure, nanoparticle size-dispersal and chemical composition were characterised via angle- and energy-dispersive powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectrosco…
Energetic analysis of succinic acid in water droplets: insight into the size-dependent solubility of atmospheric nanoparticles
2021
<p>Size-dependent solubility is prevalent in atmospheric nanoparticles, but a molecular level understanding is still insufficient, especially for organic compounds. Here, we performed molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the size dependence of succinic acid solvation on the scale of ~1-4 nm with the potential of mean forces method. Our analyses reveal that the surface preference of succinic acid is stronger for a droplet than the slab of the same size, and the surface propensity is enhanced due to the curvature effect as the droplet becomes smaller. Energetic analyses show that such surface preference is primarily an enthalpic effect in both systems, while the entropi…
Three independent channel nanohybrids as fluorescent probes
2015
A properly designed pyrene-capped CdSe/ZnS nanohybrid can act as a three-channel fluorescent sensor due to the independent emission of the pyrene monomer and excimer as well as that of the nanoparticle. As proof of principle, it was tested for a simple and rapid quantification of TNT in the presence of interferents of the same chemical family.
ChemInform Abstract: Palladium-Polypyrrole Nanocomposites Pd@PPy for Direct C-H Functionalization of Pyrroles and Imidazoles with Bromoarenes.
2016
Palladium–polypyrrole nanocomposites (Pd@PPy) with unique combination of high palladium dispersion (nanoparticle size 2.4 nm) and high palladium content (35 wt%) are efficient catalysts for the selective arylation of substituted pyrroles and imidazoles with either activated or deactivated aryl bromides. The performances of the recoverable supported palladium catalyst matches the best performances of homogeneous systems based on Pd(OAc)2 at 0.5–0.2 mol%, and largely overwhelm the classical Pd/C catalyst.
