Neurotransmitters and neuronal activity affect neurodevelopmental events like neurogenesis, neuronal migration, apoptosis and differentiation. Beside glutamate and gamma-amino butyric acid, the aminosulfonic acid taurine has been considered as possible neurotransmitter that influences early neuronal development. 11q Deletion or ALK Activity Curbs DLG2 Expression to Maintain an Undifferentiated State in Neuroblastoma

High-risk 11q deleted neuroblastomas typically display undifferentiated/poorly differentiated morphology. Neuroblastoma is thought to develop from Schwann cell precursors and undifferentiated neural crest (NC) derived cells. It is therefore vital to understand mechanisms involved in the block of differentiation. We identify an important role for oncogenic ALK-ERK1/2-SP1 signaling in maintenance of undifferentiated NC-derived progenitors via repression of DLG2, a tumor suppressor in neuroblastoma. Anti-tubulin agents constitute a large class of compounds with broad activity both in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, due to the interference with microtubule dynamics. Since microtubules play crucial roles in the regulation of the mitotic spindles, the interference with their function usually leads to a block in cell division with arrest at the metaphase/anaphase junction of mitosis, followed to apoptosis. Summary The precision and reliability of synaptic information transfer depend on the molecular organization of voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) within the presynaptic membrane. Alternative splicing of exon 47 affects the C-terminal structure of VGCCs and their affinity to intracellular partners and synaptic vesicles (SVs).
