Fatal multi-organ failure following anaphylactic shock induced by ceftriaxone

In the latest years, based on the wide use of cephalosporins for antibiotic therapy, a large interest focused on the identification of causal relationship of adverse reactions after their prescription. We report a case of fatal anaphylactic shock following the administration of ceftriaxone in a woman who had tolerated the previous exposure to the drug. This case adds a contribution to the few cases reported in literature to further suggest the possibility of severe anaphylaxis after the administration of ceftriaxone even in patients without any previous reaction to this drug.

Glutamate (Glut), acetylcholine (ACh) and dopamine (DA) were iontophoretically applied on cat claustral neurons. Glut did not affect all the neurons; ACh had both excitatory and inhibitory effects, while DA was prevalently inhibitory. An analysis was made of the time-course of excitatory and inhibitory responses on the basis of the mean firing rate variations during and after ACh and DA release. The gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor (GABA(A)R) represents a ligand-gated Cl(-)-channel assembling as heteropentamere from 19 known subunits. Cerebellar granule cells contain a unique subset, namely the alpha1-, alpha6-, beta2-, gamma2- and delta-subunits. Adolescent exposure to cannabinoids enhances the behavioural effects of cocaine, and high novelty-seeking trait predicts greater sensitivity to the conditioned place preference (CPP) induced by this drug. Our aim was to evaluate the influence of novelty-seeking on the effects of adolescent cannabinoid exposure.
