Influence of Ag, Cu dopants on the second and third harmonic response of ZnO films
2009
International audience; Silver- and copper-doped ZnO films were prepared by radio-frequency (RF)-magnetron sputtering on glass and quartz substrates. The influence of dopants content on the microstructural evolution and optical as well as nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated. It has been found that the grain sizes were enlarged with increasing of Ag, Cu dopants amount in ZnO films. The Ag or Cu doping leads to the optical band gap narrowing. Besides, the second-order NLO response of Ag- and Cu-doped ZnO films is lower than that of undoped ZnO film. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the ZnO:Ag film was found to be higher than that of the ZnO:Cu film at the si…
Lumped parameter approach of nonlinear networks with transistors
1991
In this chapter we study the lumped parameter modelling of a large class of circuits composed of bipolar transistors, junction diodes and passive elements (resistors, capacitors, inductors). All these elements are nonlinear: the semiconductor components are modelled by “large signal” equivalent schemes, the capacitors and inductors have monotone characteristics while the resistors can be included in a multiport which also has a monotone description.
Nonlinear frequency conversion in a birefringent microstructured fiber tuned by externally applied hydrostatic pressure.
2013
We studied vector frequency conversion in externally tuned microstructured fibers for applications as a novel, nonlinear fiber-optic sensor. We investigated both experimentally and numerically a possibility of shifting vector and scalar modulation instability gain bands by pressure-induced changes in the linear properties of a microstructured fiber. Our results show that polarization-dependent vector nonlinear processes sensitive to variation of fiber group velocity difference (group birefringence) exhibit a clear advantage for pressure-sensing applications compared with scalar nonlinear processes only sensitive to group velocity dispersion changes. Analytical predictions and numerical simu…
Non-critically phase-matched cascaded THG at 440 nm in KTiOP1−yAsyO4 crystals
1995
Abstract We report the relative nonlinear optical properties of flux-grown KTiOP 1− y As y O 4 crystals ( y =0, y =0.03 and y =0.12). The non-critical phase-matching temperatures along the x -axis for blue generation by type II indirect third harmonic generation from 1318.8 nm and 1320 nm are measured. The phosphorus-arsenic substitution allows a “chemical tuning” of the phase-matching properties, through a birefringence variation, so that non-critical phase-matching at room temperature is possible for the previous interactions. Type II frequency doubling from 1064 nm is briefly considered.
Using birefringence colors to evaluate a tunable liquid-crystal q-plate
2019
Q-plates are geometrical phase elements that enable the realization of vector beams in simple and compact optical setups. In this work, we consider a tunable liquid-crystal commercial q-plate operative in the visible and near-IR range and study its spectral and color birefringence properties under broadband illumination. We first characterize the spectral retardance function of the device in a wide range from 400 to 1600 nm and determine how it changes upon applied voltage. Then we evaluate the color transmission characteristics when inserting the q-plate between crossed and parallel linear polarizers. These color properties agree with the trajectory in the CIExy chromaticity diagram as the…
Temperature dependence of refractive index and absorption coefficient of GaSe at 633 nm
1995
Abstract Measurements of the ordinary refractive index and the absorption coefficient ( E /t] to c axis ) of gallium selenide at 633 nm, in the temperature range [20,100] °C, are reported. Useful analytical approximations obtained after a least squares fitting process are provided, as well. These results are basic for any theoretical model of nonlinear and bistable optical devices based on GaSe.
Chalcogenide Glasses Based on Germanium Disulfide for Second Harmonic Generation
2007
International audience; High second-order susceptibilities are created by thermal poling in bulk germanium disulfide based chalcogenide glasses. Experimental conditions of the poling treatment (temperature, voltage, time) were optimized for each glass composition. The second-order nonlinear signals were recorded by using the Maker fringes experiment and a second-order coefficient χ(2) up to 8 pm V-1 was measured in the Ge25Sb10S65 glass. This value is obtained using a simulation based on accurate knowledge of the thickness of the nonlinear layer. Two mechanisms are proposed to explain the creation of a nonlinear layer under the anode: the formation and the migration of charged defects towar…
Optical, thermal, electrical, damage, and phase-matching properties of lithium selenoindate
2010
Lithium selenoindate (LiInSe2) is a new nonlinear chalcogenide biaxial crystal, related to LiInS2 and transparent from 0.54 to 10 μm at the 50% level (10 mm thickness), which has been successfully grown in large sizes and with good optical quality. We report on what we believe to be new physical properties that are relevant for laser and nonlinear optical applications and summarize all relevant characteristics, both from the literature and as measured in the present work. With respect to AgGaS(e)2 ternary chalcopyrite materials, LiInSe2 displays a nearly isotropic thermal expansion behavior with three- to five-times-larger thermal conductivities associated with high optical damage threshold…
Applicability Range of the One-Parameter Ply Plasticity Model for Prediction of the Nonlinear Response of Laminates
2005
A one-parameter lamina plasticity model is applied to predict the nonlinear deformation of an E-glass / epoxy cross-ply composite laminate under quasi-static uniaxial tensile loading at different angles to the material orthotropy axes. It is shown that the laminate theory yields accurate results within the plastic strain range covered in unidirectional continuous-fibre reinforced composite tests that are used to determine the plasticity model parameters.
Pressure-induced band anticrossing in two adamantine ordered-vacancy compounds: CdGa2S4 and HgGa2S4
2021
Abstract This paper reports a joint experimental and theoretical study of the electronic band structure of two ordered-vacancy compounds with defect-chalcopyrite structure: CdGa2S4 and HgGa2S4. High-pressure optical-absorption experiments (up to around 17 GPa) combined with first-principles electronic band-structure calculations provide compelling evidence of strong nonlinear pressure dependence of the bandgap in both compounds. The nonlinear pressure dependence is well accounted for by the band anticrossing model that was previously established mostly for selenides with defect chalcopyrite structure. Therefore, our results on two sulfides with defect chalcopyrite structure under compressio…
