Acciones para mejorar la eficiencia energética en los edificios en Europa: estado del arte sobre los standards técnicos

2022

The paper is aimed at reviewing the state of the art of the European technical normative implementation during the last decades concerning the building energy efficiency. Indeed, it is well acknowledged that the present building stock is largely obsolete and inefficient: in the European context alone, around 75% of the buildings is not energy efficient and most are expected to be in use until 2050. Consequently, buildings require not only a general rehabilitation, to extend, or even avoid, its end-of-life time, but also a complete afterthought of their energy performance. That is extremely urgent to improve the overall sustainability of the construction sector that, alone, is one of the mai…

Exploring the Background: Puzzles, Afterthoughts, and Replies

2017

In this paper I review the comments, and reply to the objections, put forward in the commentaries to my essay “Pre-conventions. A fragment of the Background”, published in issues n. 30 and 33 of Revus – Journal for Constitutional Theory and Philosophy of Law. My remarks fall under the following headings: 1. The social dimension of pre-conventions; 2. Pre-conventions and ordinary habits and dispositions; 3. Whether my examples are mistaken; 4. Reasons and causes; 5. Normative facts; 6. Whether abstract entities can be causes; 7. Are pre-conventions conditions of Lewis-conventions? 8. What can pre-conventions do for legal theory? 9. Whether I discharged my argumentative burdens. Once a journalist, not always a journalist? Causes and consequences of job changes from journalism to public relations

2019

Increasingly, journalists do not find permanent jobs and seek work in related fields, often in public relations. However, the two professions differ with regard to some of their normative functions: whereas journalists should report objectively and without bias, public relations practitioners are supposed to represent their clients’ particular interests. Hence, shifts from journalism to public relations have the potential for conflict. This study analyzes whether these shifts cause inter-role conflict and examines the reasons for the job changes. We conducted 17 qualitative semi-structured interviews with former journalists from Germany who have permanently transitioned into public relatio…

The sit up test to exhaustion as a test for muscular endurance evaluation

2015

Aims/Hypothesis The aim of this study was to examine the sit up test to exhaustion as a field test for muscular endurance evaluation in a sample of sedentary people of both sexes. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed. Three-hundred-eighty-one participants volunteered for the study (28.5 ± 10.0 years; 168.2 ± 8.9 cm; 65.1 ± 11.1 kg), of which 194 males (27.5 ± 10.2 years; 173.6 ± 7.0 cm; 71.2 ± 5.2 kg) and 187 females (29.6 ± 10.1 years; 162.6 ± 7.1 cm; 58.7 ± 8.9 kg). Each subject voluntarily and randomly performed: a sit up test (SUT), a push up test (PUT), and a free weight squat test (ST), all till exhaustion. A multiple regression analysis was adopted for data analysis. Subsequ…

Adoption and use of work-life initiatives: Looking at the influence of institutional pressures and gender

2015

Under the lens of Institutional Theory, this paper examines how coercive, normative and mimetic pressures on employers encourage the adoption and use of work-life balance. Analyzing a sample of Spanish private firms, we find that the diffusion of work-life practices may be explained as an isomorphic process in which particular normative pressure significantly influences the adoption and use of work-life programs, while mimetic pressures only affect the level of use. Interestingly, the presence of women in organizations is found to be relevant to the adoption and use of work-life benefits only when this presence refers to managerial positions.

Justicia transicional: conceptos clave y aspectos normativos

2018

This paper is an exposition about the key concepts of transitional justice. We will introduce briefly its four basic measures (penal responsibility, truth seeking, victim reparations and nonrepetition guarantees). After that, we will analyse some of the normative aspects and dilemmas that these measures involve. These questions include: opposite exigencies (for example, between truth and justice); problems related with the application of universal abstract norms to particular contexts; the complex balance between truth, memory and reconciliation; a disquisition about the concept of victim and the concept of perpetrator; and a reflection concerning the future of transitional justice.

The European Standards for Energy Efficiency in Buildings: an analysis of the Evolution with Reference to a Case Study

2019

The improvement of the energy efficiency of building stocks represents an important contribution for the reduction of the energy consumption in the European Union (EU), along with the decrease of greenhouse gases emissions. In this aim both the public administrations and the technical experts need reliable calculation methodology to assess buildings’ energy performance. In this framework, despite the recent publication of the Standard EN ISO 52016, that deeply modifies the approach to the energy building simulation by introducing a new hourly dynamic calculation model, the current normative framework (EN ISO 13790) will maintain its validity until the incorporation of the new Standard in th…

HL7v3 CDA Rel.2 Patient Summary and Chronic Care Model: Localization experience and GP/HS Integration Project

2010

The localization experience for the Patient Summary, based on the Health Level Seven Version 3 (HL7v3) Clinical Document Architecture, Release 2 (CDA Rel.2), is presented. An overview of the Chronic Care Model (CCM) is introduced with particular attention to the clinical information systems, in order to organize patient and population clinical data by sharing information among healthcare providers in management of chronic diseases. We propose, as case study, a project for the integration of various services for General Practitioners (GP) and Hospital Specialists (HS), accessing the Electronic Health Record (EHR), implementing the Patient Summary and managing the exchange of Chronic Care med…

An Overview of Cloud Computing Adoption Challenges in the Norwegian Context

2014

Cloud computing is dominating European countries' Information and Communication Technology (ICT) agenda. Although the European cloud market is mostly mature, there are still challenges to overcome. Norway is one of the European countries facing such challenges, despite it is a developed country in terms of quality of life and ICT development. This paper identifies the current state of cloud computing adoption challenges in Europe in general and Norway in specific, and the way they are addressed. This is achieved through analyzing research articles, reports published by consulting companies and official bodies, official online news articles, and documents published by official authorities. T…
