Independent Isotopic Product Yields in 25 MeV and 50 MeV Charged Particle Induced Fission of 238U and 232Th

Abstract Independent isotopic yields for most elements from Zn to La in 25-MeV proton-induced fission of 238U and 232Th have been determined at the IGISOL facility in the University of Jyvaskyla. In addition, isotopic yields for Zn, Ga, Rb, Sr, Zr, Pd and Xe in 50-MeV proton-induced fission of 238U and for Zn, Ga, Rb, Sr, Cd and In in 25-MeV deuterium-induced fission of 238U have been measured. The utilised technique recently developed at the University of Jyvaskyla, is based on a combination of the ion guide technique and the ability of a Penning trap to unambiguously identify the isotopes by their atomic mass. R-Process Abundances and Nuclear Properties Far from Stability

Recent measurements of β-decay properties of the ‘waiting-point’ nuclei 79Cu, 80Zn and 130Cd, together with new QRPA shell-model predictions of so far unknown N ≃ 50 and N ≃ 82 isotopes in the r-process path, have allowed to explain the detailed isotopic composition in the A ≃ 80 and A ≃ 130 r-abundance peaks. The correlation between nuclear data far from stability and r-abundances suggests that the r-process involves a high-neutron-density β-flow equilibrium environment. Based on these results, the r-process components of nuclei in the 90 ≤ A ≤ 100 mass range were predicted for freeze-out conditions (nn ≃ 1020, T9 ≃ 1) and compared to the solar-system r-process abundances.

Study of Proton and 3He Induced Reactions on 235U at Low Energies

Abstract Highly enriched 235 U targets were irradiated with 6.5 − 16.1 MeV protons and 20.4 − 42.0 MeV 3 He ions. The irradiated targets were measured with γ and α spectrometric methods to identify and quantify the produced reaction products. After primary activity measurements the targets were dissolved, and interesting Pu and Np reaction products were chemically separated from the target material, and measured for activity again. From the activity results it was possible to calculate the reaction cross sections for differently produced nuclides. The data obtained from the experiment resulted in earlier unknown excitation functions on proton and 3 He induced nuclear reactions on 235 U.

The novel technology of calorimetric low-temperature detectors (CLTDs) was applied to determine isotopic yields of fission fragments using the passive absorber method for thermal-neutron-induced fission reactions at the LOHENGRIN mass spectrometer at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France. Precise yields were determined for $^{92}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{96}\mathrm{Y}$. These fission products are the dominant contributors to the high-energy portion of the reactor antineutrino spectra. ANDES Measurements for Advanced Reactor Systems

Abstract A significant number of new measurements was undertaken by the ANDES “Measurements for advanced reactor systems” initiative. These new measurements include neutron inelastic scattering from 23 Na, Mo, Zr, and 238 U, neutron capture cross sections of 238 U, 241 Am, neutron induced fission cross sections of 240 Pu, 242 Pu, 241 Am, 243 Am and 245 Cm, and measurements that explore the limits of the surrogate technique. Neutron capture cross section measurement ofU238at the CERN n_TOF facility in the energy region from 1 eV to 700 keV

The aim of this work is to provide a precise and accurate measurement of the U238(n,γ) reaction cross section in the energy region from 1 eV to 700 keV. This reaction is of fundamental importance for the design calculations of nuclear reactors, governing the behavior of the reactor core. In particular, fast reactors, which are experiencing a growing interest for their ability to burn radioactive waste, operate in the high energy region of the neutron spectrum. Characterization of a Be(p,xn) Neutron Source for Fission Yields Measurements

We report on measurements performed at The Svedberg Laboratory (TSL) to characterize a proton-neutron converter for independent fission yield studies at the IGISOL-JYFLTRAP facility (Jyv\"askyl\"a, Finland). A 30 MeV proton beam impinged on a 5 mm water-cooled Beryllium target. Two independent experimental techniques have been used to measure the neutron spectrum: a Time of Flight (TOF) system used to estimate the high-energy contribution, and a Bonner Sphere Spectrometer able to provide precise results from thermal energies up to 20 MeV. Compilation and Evaluation of Beta-Delayed Neutron Emission Probabilities and Half-Lives for Z > 28 Precursors

Abstract We present a compilation and evaluation of experimental β-delayed neutron emission probabilities (Pn) and half-lives (T1/2) for known or potential β-delayed neutron precursors with atomic number Z > 28 (73Cu–233Fr). This article includes the recommended values of both of these quantities, together with a compilation of experimental measurements when available. Some notable cases, as well as proposed standards for β-delayed neutron measurements are also discussed. Evaluated data has also been compared to systematics using three different approaches. The literature cut-off date for this work is August 15, 2020.

Beta Decay Study of the Tz=−2 56Zn Nucleus and the Determination of the Half-Lives of a Few fp-shell Nuclei

Abstract This paper concerns the experimental study of the β decay properties of few proton-rich fp -shell nuclei. The nuclei were produced at GANIL in fragmentation reactions, separated with the LISE spectrometer and stopped in an implantation detector surrounded by Ge detectors. The β -delayed gammas, β -delayed protons and the exotic β -delayed gamma-proton emission have been studied. Preliminary results are presented. The decay of the T z = − 2 nucleus 56 Zn has been studied in detail. Information from the β -delayed protons and β -delayed gammas has been used to deduce the decay scheme.
