Comparative investigation of the macromolecular composition of mycelia forms Thielavia terrestris by infrared spectroscopy

Using analytical and infrared spectroscopic methods, the differences between the composition of diffuse and pellet forms of mycelium of the ascomycete Thielavia terrestris were described. Quantitative estimates of the amounts of protein, nucleic acids and carbohydrates in T. terrestris showed a predominance of catabolic processes in the metabolism of the pelleted form, in comparison to the diffused form.

Polyhydroxyethylaspartamide-spermine copolymers: Efficient vectors for gene delivery

Abstract Aim of this paper was that to prepare biocompatible, polyaspartamide based copolymers containing spermine or spermine/hydrophobic side chains able to condense nucleic acids and to transfect mammalian cells. Abstract Background Plants have played a special role in inositol polyphosphate (IP) research since in plant seeds was discovered the first IP, the fully phosphorylated inositol ring of phytic acid (IP6). It is now known that phytic acid is further metabolized by the IP6 Kinases (IP6Ks) to generate IP containing pyro-phosphate moiety. The IP6K are evolutionary conserved enzymes identified in several mammalian, fungi and amoebae species. Homozygous deletions localize novel tumor suppressor genes in B-cell lymphomas

AbstractIntegrative genomic and gene-expression analyses have identified amplified oncogenes in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL), but the capability of such technologies to localize tumor suppressor genes within homozygous deletions remains unexplored. Array-based comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and gene-expression microarray analysis of 48 cell lines derived from patients with different B-NHLs delineated 20 homozygous deletions at 7 chromosome areas, all of which contained tumor suppressor gene targets. Afferent and efferent projections of the dorsal anterior thalamic nuclei in the lizard Podarcis hispanica (Sauria, Lacertidae).

The aim of this study was to investigate the afferent and efferent connections of the anterior thalamic nuclei in the lizard Podarcis hispanica. To identify potential sources of sensory inputs and to determine the fine organization of the projections of these thalamic nuclei to the telencephalon, we injected the sensitive tracer biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) into different nuclei of the anterior dorsal thalamus. We also injected BDA into several telencephalic areas in order to corroborate the results of thalamic injections. Black hole lightning due to particle acceleration at subhorizon scales

Supermassive black holes with masses of millions to billions of solar masses are commonly found in the centers of galaxies. Astronomers seek to image jet formation using radio interferometry, but still suffer from insufficient angular resolution. An alternative method to resolve small structures is to measure the time variability of their emission. Here, we report on gamma-ray observations of the radio galaxy IC 310 obtained with the MAGIC telescopes revealing variability with doubling time scales faster than 4.8 min. Distribution of Cartilage Proteoglycan (Aggrecan) Core Protein and Link Protein Gene Expression during Human Skeletal Development

The distribution of cartilage proteoglycan core protein (aggrecan) and cartilage proteoglycan link protein was investigated by in situ hybridization during different stages of human skeletal development. Aggrecan and link protein expression were confined to chondrocytes of the developing skeleton and other cartilaginous structures. Distribution and intensity of the signal was identical with aggrecan as compared to link protein probes. Parallel to the calcification of cartilaginous matrix, chondrocytes of this area lost the expression of aggrecan and link protein specific mRNA and stayed negative throughout the following stages of skeletal development.
