Pleistocene Glaciations in Latvia
2011
Abstract During the Pleistocene the territory of Latvia was repeatedly overridden by Scandinavian ice sheets, at least from the Elsterian onwards. Extent limit of all glaciations was located far outside of Latvia. Due to vigorous erosion by subsequent glaciations the Pleistocene record is incomplete. Radiocarbon, cosmogenic nuclide and radiation exposure dating methods have been mainly used only for age determination of the upper part of the Pleistocene sequence. Decay of the Late Weichselian glaciation in Latvia is marked by five major ice-marginal zones
Craton reactivation on the Labrador Sea margins: 40Ar/39Ar age and Sr–Nd–Hf–Pb isotope constraints from alkaline and carbonatite intrusives
2007
Abstract The once-contiguous North Atlantic craton (NAC) is crosscut by the Labrador Sea that opened during the Early Cenozoic after extensive Mesozoic continental rifting and removal of cratonic mantle. This large-scale structural change within the cratonic lithosphere was followed at about 150 Ma by the cessation of ultrapotassic and potassic-to-carbonatitic magma production, which had prevailed throughout much of the NAC history. At Aillik Bay, a sequence of olivine lamproites (1374.2 ± 4.2 Ma, 2σ), aillikites/carbonatites (590–555 Ma), and nephelinites (141.6 ± 1.0 Ma, 2σ) erupted through the southern NAC edge on the present-day Labrador Sea margin. Links between these alkaline magma ty…
Biodistribution and post-therapy dosimetric analysis of [177Lu]Lu-DOTAZOL in patients with osteoblastic metastases: first results
2019
Abstract Background Preclinical biodistribution and dosimetric analysis of [177Lu]Lu-DOTAZOL suggest the bisphosphonate zoledronate as a promising new radiopharmaceutical for therapy of bone metastases. We evaluated biodistribution and normal organ absorbed doses resulting from therapeutic doses of [177Lu]Lu-DOTAZOL in patients with metastatic skeletal disease. Method Four patients with metastatic skeletal disease (age range, 64–83 years) secondary to metastatic castration-resistant prostate carcinoma or bronchial carcinoma were treated with a mean dose of 5968 ± 64 MBq (161.3 mCi) of [177Lu]Lu-DOTAZOL. Biodistribution was assessed with serial planar whole body scintigraphy at 20 min and 3,…
Investigations of Latvian Illite/Kaolinite Clays Irradiated Under Action of Accelerated Electrons
2019
Natural clay is a perspective material for application as sorbents for wastewater treatment as well as for sorption of radionuclides, where the properties of the clays can be changed under influence of ionizing radiation. For application of Latvian illite/kaolinite clays for isotope sorption it is important to characterize the physic-chemical properties of pre-prepared air dried clays. Two fractions of the illite clays were selected. A fraction with grain size 100 μm (SiO2 content 60.9 ± 1.5 wt.%, specific surface area 35 m2/g) and a sand free fraction – 2 μm (SiO2 47.7 ± 1.9 wt.%, specific surface area 38 m2/g). Selected fractions were irradiated with accelerated electrons (5 MeV, ELU-4, S…

A methodical 68Ga-labelling study of DO2A-(butyl- l-tyrosine)2 with cation-exchanger post-processed 68Ga: practical aspects of radiolabelling
2011
Positron emission tomography (PET) with 68Ga is a fast-growing field in molecular imaging, both in research and in clinical routine. The availability of 68Ga via the 68Ge/68Ga radionuclide generator facilitates the development and production of radiopharmaceuticals independent of a cyclotron. The presented work shows a complete 68Ga labelling study exemplified on [68Ga]DO2A-(butyl- l-tyrosine)2, a potential tumour tracer for PET. A methodical sequence is followed to optimize the 68Ga-labelling reaction. Practical aspects are described and the different parameters contributing to the labelling yield are demonstrated. The influence of temperature, time, amount of labelling precursor and pH va…
Klinisch-experimentelle Studie zur szintigraphischen Darstellung maligner Kopf-Hals-Neoplasien mit57Cobalt-Bleomycin
1975
Tumorscanning of malignomas and their metastatic nodules in head and neck is an enrichment of diagnostic possibilities. For the examination such substances can be used, which are tumoraffine and well to mark with a radio-isotope. Therefore we have marked the cytostatic drug Bleomycine with 57Co. Scans were performed with the Anger-Camera 4 to 6 hrs after intravenous injection of 1 mCi 57Co-Bleomycine. 60 patients with different malignomas have been examined, 46 with tumor-localization in head and neck, the others in thoraxabdomen. 34 (85%) of the head and neck malignomas could be demonstrated; 21 (81%) were squamous cell carcinomas, 13 (69%) sarcomas. The possibilities of this method are sh…
Diagnostic laparoscopy in a Gartner's duct cyst
2008
Gartner's duct cysts associated with renal dysgenesis are rare malformations and represent a diagnostic challenge. We report on one such case in which final diagnosis was achieved by laparoscopy and discuss the possible role of minimally invasive surgery in the management of this condition.

68 Ga-DOTATOC PET in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET). We specifically looked for incremental lesions, defined as lesions only observed on one modality even after extensive retrospective evaluation of the other modality. Methods: Twenty patients with a metastasized NET underwent 111 In-pentetreotide
