Compensation of the impact of low-cost manufacturing techniques in the design of E-plane multiport waveguide junctions

In this work, a full-wave tool for the accurate analysis and design of compensated E-plane multiport junctions is proposed. The implemented tool is capable of evaluating the undesired effects related to the use of low-cost manufacturing techniques, which are mostly due to the introduction of rounded corners in the cross section of the rectangular waveguides of the device. The obtained results show that, although stringent mechanical effects are imposed, it is possible to compensate for the impact of the cited low-cost manufacturing techniques by redesigning the matching elements considered in the original device. The cognitive system does not just act as a mirror from the sensory input; instead, it tends to normalize this information. Given that letter processing seems to be much more specialized than digit processing in the cortex, we examined whether the regularization process occurs differently from digits to letters than from letters to digits: We employed a masked priming same/different experiment (e.g., probe, VESZED; prime, V35Z3D; and target, VESZED). Position Coding in Two-Digit Arabic Numbers

Digit position coding in two-digit Arabic numbers was examined in two masked priming experiments. In Experiment 1, participants had to decide whether the presented stimulus was a two-digit Arabic number (e.g., 67) or not (e.g., G7). Target stimuli could be preceded by a prime which (i) shared one digit in the initial position (e.g., 13-18), (ii) shared one digit but in a different position (83-18), and (iii) was a transposed number (81-18). A Lebesgue-type decomposition for non-positive sesquilinear forms

A Lebesgue-type decomposition of a (non necessarily non-negative) sesquilinear form with respect to a non-negative one is studied. This decomposition consists of a sum of three parts: two are dominated by an absolutely continuous form and a singular non-negative one, respectively, and the latter is majorized by the product of an absolutely continuous and a singular non-negative forms. The Lebesgue decomposition of a complex measure is given as application.

Complex singularities in KdV solutions

2016

In the small dispersion regime, the KdV solution exhibits rapid oscillations in its spatio-temporal dependence. We show that these oscillations are caused by the presence of complex singularities that approach the real axis. We give a numerical estimate of the asymptotic dynamics of the poles.

The effect of geometrical parameters on the discharge capacity of meandering compound channels

A number of methods and formulae has been proposed in the literature to estimate the discharge capacity of compound channels. When the main channel has a meandering pattern, a reduction in the conveyance capacity for a given stage is observed, which is due to the energy dissipations caused by the development of strong secondary currents and to the decrease of the main channel bed slope with respect to the valley bed slope. Abstract The effect of through-thickness compressive stress on mode II interlaminar fracture toughness is investigated experimentally and replicated numerically. The modified Transverse Crack Tensile specimen recently proposed by the authors is used, together with an experimental device designed to apply a constant transverse compressive stress on the surface of the specimen. Experiments are conducted using IM7/8552 specimens for different compressive stresses, ranging from 0 to 100 MPa, covering all the practical applications commonly encountered in the aeronautical industry (e.g., tightened filled holes or bolted joints). Spectral approach to the scattering map for the semi-classical defocusing Davey–Stewartson II equation

International audience; The inverse scattering approach for the defocusing Davey–Stewartson II equation is given by a system of D-bar equations. We present a numerical approach to semi-classical D-bar problems for real analytic rapidly decreasing potentials. We treat the D-bar problem as a complex linear second order integral equation which is solved with discrete Fourier transforms complemented by a regularization of the singular parts by explicit analytic computation. The resulting algebraic equation is solved either by fixed point iterations or GMRES. Several examples for small values of the semi-classical parameter in the system are discussed.

Exploring parallel capabilities of an innovative numerical method for recovering image velocity vectors field

In this paper an efficient method devoted to estimate the velocity vectors field is investigated. The method is based on a quasi-interpolant operator and involves a large amount of computation. The operations characterizing the computational scheme are ideal for parallel processing because they are local, regular and repetitive. Therefore, the spatial parallelism of the process is studied to rapidly proceed in the computation on distributed multiprocessor systems. The process has shown to be synchronous, with good task balancing and requiring a small amount of data transfer.
