How amniotic fluid shapes early odor-guided responses to colostrum and milk (and more)

2016

Revue; Among the multiple transitions that characterize mammalian development, birth certainly is the most abrupt and spectacular. It is also the most challenging for newborns when one considers their high mortality rates in any mammalian species. Although evolution has selected newborn organisms that possess the physiological and behavioral keys leading to adapt to this harsh psychobiological challenge, their capabilities cannot be considered separately from the maternal organism and the environment she creates. Mammalian females provide indeed passive (physiological) and/or active (behavioral) assistance to complement and boost their offspring’s capacities. One notable strategy of mammali…

Understanding Consumers’ Convenience Orientation. An Exploratory Study of Fresh-Cut Fruit in Italy

2021

In Western society, the fresh-cut fruit market is experiencing significant growth, especially in Italy, where, in 2019, the fresh-cut fruit sales volume increased by 35% compared with the previous year. This study aims to understand Italian consumers&rsquo

Minéralité du vin : Une réalité sensorielle?

2011

A genomic reappraisal of symbiotic function in the aphid/Buchnera symbiosis: reduced transporter sets and variable membrane organisations.

2011

International audience; Buchnera aphidicola is an obligate symbiotic bacterium that sustains the physiology of aphids by complementing their exclusive phloem sap diet. In this study, we reappraised the transport function of different Buchnera strains, from the aphids Acyrthosiphon pisum, Schizaphis graminum, Baizongia pistaciae and Cinara cedri, using the re-annotation of their transmembrane proteins coupled with an exploration of their metabolic networks. Although metabolic analyses revealed high interdependencies between the host and the bacteria, we demonstrate here that transport in Buchnera is assured by low transporter diversity, when compared to free-living bacteria, being mostly bas…

Marked elevation of transaminases and pancreatic enzymes in severe malnourished male with eating disorder

2013

We report a case of a 45 year old Caucasian malnourished male with an history of eating disorder who developed severe liver and pancreatic damage and multiorgan disfunction. At admission to our department, his body mass index (BMI) was 11.1. Biochemical evaluation showed elevated serum levels of transaminases (AST= 2291 U/L, ALT= 1792 U/L), amylase (3620 U/L), lipase (4102 U/L), CPK= 1370 U/L, LDH= 2082 U/L. No other cause of acute liver and pancreatic damage was evidenced. Haematological disorders (anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia) found on admission seem related to bone marrow hypoplasia and to gelatinous marrow transformation described in severe state of malnutrition. Although a mode…
