Comparing reference point based interactive multiobjective optimization methods without a human decision maker
2022
AbstractInteractive multiobjective optimization methods have proven promising in solving optimization problems with conflicting objectives since they iteratively incorporate preference information of a decision maker in the search for the most preferred solution. To find the appropriate interactive method for various needs involves analysis of the strengths and weaknesses. However, extensive analysis with human decision makers may be too costly and for that reason, we propose an artificial decision maker to compare a class of popular interactive multiobjective optimization methods, i.e., reference point based methods. Without involving any human decision makers, the artificial decision make…
On Using Decision Maker Preferences with ParEGO
2017
In this paper, an interactive version of the ParEGO algorithm is introduced for identifying most preferred solutions for computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems. It enables a decision maker to guide the search with her preferences and change them in case new insight is gained about the feasibility of the preferences. At each interaction, the decision maker is shown a subset of non-dominated solutions and she is assumed to provide her preferences in the form of preferred ranges for each objective. Internally, the algorithm samples reference points within the hyperbox defined by the preferred ranges in the objective space and uses a DACE model to approximate an achievem…
Optimal design of k-out-of-n systems
2016
The present paper is aimed at finding the best compromise to design a system k-out-of-n reliability configuration by means of the formulation of a multi-objective mathematical model. The Pareto front, which is the set of non-dominated solutions, is determined by considering the stationary availability and the achievable profit as objectives to be simultaneously optimized. The Pareto front represents a useful tool for the analyst to make the choice related to the analyzed design problem. In addition, the knowledge of the Pareto front permits to consider different design scenarios.
Device-Based Measures of Sedentary Time and Physical Activity Are Associated With Physical Fitness and Body Fat Content
2020
Introduction/Purpose: Physical activity and sedentary time may associate with physical fitness and body composition. Yet, there exists some observational studies that have investigated the associations of device-based measures of sedentary time and physical activity (PA) with cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and body composition but associations with muscular fitness (MF) are less studied. Methods: Objective sedentary time and physical activity was measured by a hip worn accelerometer from 415 young adult men (age: mean 26, standard deviation 7 years). Cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2max) (CRF) was determined using a graded cycle ergometer test until exhaustion. Maximal force of lower extremiti…
Valutare: perchè e come
2022
After OM 172/20, the attention of researchers was focused on the new way of evaluating learning objectives in primary school. It is also necessary to evaluate the degree of overall development of the pupils in view of the certification of skills.
Public logistics in management of medical entities (hospitals)
2014
The problem of public/social logistics application opportunities has been discussed in this paper. The public/social logistics is understood as the application of public objectives by the external entities within medical entities. There has been undertaken an attempt of showing that the greatest potential of costs reduction and processes diminishing in a hospital occurs in the logistics sphere. It has been indicated that the development of public logistics resulting, first of all, from the budget constraints is a kind of a panacea for the processes diminishing and the medical services effectiveness increase.
Multilayer perceptron training with multiobjective memetic optimization
2016
Machine learning tasks usually come with several mutually conflicting objectives. One example is the simplicity of the learning device contrasted with the accuracy of its performance after learning. Another common example is the trade-off that must often be made between the rate of false positive and false negative predictions in diagnostic applications. For computer programs that learn from data, these objectives are formulated as mathematical functions, each of which describes one facet of the desired learning outcome. Even functions that intend to optimize the same facet may behave in a subtly different and mutually conflicting way, depending on the task and the dataset being examined. Mul…
Networking strategies as enabler for competitive advantage creation: a market-based and a resource-based perspectives
2010
The purpose of this work is to explore the potential of networking strategy as a source of competitive advantage by integrating market-based and resource-based logics. According to the former logic a firm identifies operations performance objectives as drivers for achieving its wished competitive position and advantage. According to the latter logic the firm achieves a competitive advantage through the obtainment and/or the creation of valuable, rare, imperfectly imitable, and not substitutable resources. Both operations performance objectives and strategic resource needs should, thus, directly affect networking strategy decisions. The question is whether they effectively do and how. In thi…
Achieving operations performance objectives through networking strategy
2010
The main objective of this paper is to investigate how firms make strategic networking decisions in order to pursue competitive advantage. Literature analysis with theory building purposes and two case studies to support our theoretical findings and to explore the linkages between networking strategy and operations performance objectives constitute our research methods. Our analysis led to the definition of networking strategy in terms of decisional dimensions, and found effective linkages between networking decisions made by managers and wished operations performance objectives.
