Ownership, responsibility and leadership – a historical perspective
1999
The aim of this article is to present the great lines of managerial thoughts concerning ownership, business, social responsibility and leadership. The perspective of consideration is historical, and especially conceptual. We noticed that in the twentieth century a modern business ideology began to take form. Old suppositions according to the classical economic theory about the nature of economic activities started to give way when the modern professional manager type came into the management of the firm. At that time also there developed the idea of the firm as an institution with many targets. The position of the firm in society changed, people started to make demands for a wider social re…

Sibling Relationships: Being Connected and Related
2021
This chapter is about siblingship and the necessary analytical considerations when studying this phenomenon. Inspired by family and childhood research, and drawing on an empirical qualitative study in Denmark exploring children’s ways of understanding and practising siblingship, we argue for an approach that carefully examines the form of family and the everyday practices and emotional dynamics constituting contemporary sibling relationships. Ordinary undertakings, such as sharing objects, commuting between households, doing chores and spending spare time together, evoke composite feelings of togetherness and obligation, relatedness and doubt, frustration and longing which reflect tensions …
Multi-Agent Financial Network (MAFN) Model of US Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO)
2014
A database driven multi-agent model has been developed with automated access to US bank level FDIC Call Reports that yield data on balance sheet and off balance sheet activity, respectively, in Residential Mortgage Backed Securities (RMBS) and Credit Default Swaps (CDS). The simultaneous accumulation of RMBS assets on US banks’ balance sheets and also large counterparty exposures from CDS positions characterized the $2 trillion Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO) market. The latter imploded at the end of 2007 with large scale systemic risk consequences. Based on US FDIC bank data, that could have been available to the regulator at the time, the authors investigate how a CDS negative carry …

Predicting Social Distancing Intention and Behavior During the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Integrated Social Cognition Model.
2020
Abstract Background Social distancing is a key behavior to minimize COVID-19 infections. Identification of potentially modifiable determinants of social distancing behavior may provide essential evidence to inform social distancing behavioral interventions. Purpose The current study applied an integrated social cognition model to identify the determinants of social distancing behavior, and the processes involved, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods In a prospective correlational survey study, samples of Australian (N = 365) and U.S. (N = 440) residents completed online self-report measures of social cognition constructs (attitude, subjective norm, moral norm, anticipated regret…
The Full Protection and Security Standard in Investment Law: A Specific Obligation?
2019
This chapter aims to demonstrate that full protection and security and fair and equitable treatment are two different standards that don’t apply under the same circumstances and have different legal status. After a historical overview (Sect. 1) intended to show how the conflation between the two has emerged over the centuries, emphasis is put on the nature and the scope of application of the full protection and security standard when compared to the fair and equitable treatment standard (Sects. 2 and 3). The next section of the current chapter introduces the idea that full protection and security is to be read in light of another provision often found in international investment agreements:…
