Wind gustiness and sulphur dioxide concentration in the urban area of Barcelona, Spain
1991
Abstract Data on aerosols and wind parameters recorded at the Barcelona Meteorological Observatory were analysed to determine their relation to wind gustiness, defined according to the criteria used at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The relation between wind gustiness and wind speed and direction was analysed, together with the annual and monthly variation. The relation between the concentration of sulphur dioxide and wind gustiness was also investigated, and proved to be a very useful indicator in this kind of analysis, especially in local studies.
Measuring SO2 Emission Rates at Kīlauea Volcano, Hawaii, Using an Array of Upward-Looking UV Spectrometers, 2014–2017
2018
Retrieving accurate volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas emission rates is important for a variety of purposes. It is an indicator of shallow subsurface magma, and thus may signal impending eruption or unrest. SO2 emission rates are significant for accurately assessing climate impact, and providing context for assessing environmental, agricultural, and human health effects during volcanic eruptions. The U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory uses an array of ten fixed, upward-looking ultraviolet spectrometer systems to measure SO2 emission rates at 10-s sample intervals from the Kīlauea summit. We present Kīlauea SO2 emission rates from the volcano’s summit and middle East Rift Zo…
Sub-milliarcsecond imaging of a bright flare and ejection event in the extragalactic jet 3C 111
2020
Context. Flares in radio-loud active galactic nuclei are thought to be associated with the injection of fresh plasma into the compact jet base. Such flares are usually strongest and appear earlier at shorter radio wavelengths. Hence, very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) at millimeter(mm)-wavelengths is the best-suited technique for studying the earliest structural changes of compact jets associated with emission flares. Aims. We study the morphological changes of the parsec-scale jet in the nearby (z = 0.049) γ-ray bright radio galaxy 3C 111 following a flare that developed into a major radio outburst in 2007. Methods. We analyse three successive observations of 3C 111 at 86 GHz with th…
Theoretical study of neutrino scattering off the stable even Mo isotopes at low and intermediate energies
2011
A systematic study of the cross sections of neutral-current neutrino scattering off the stable even Mo isotopes (mass number A = 92, 94, 96, 98, 100), at low and intermediate neutrino energies (E(nu) <= 130 MeV), is presented and discussed. The required wave functions for the initial (ground state) and all accessible final nuclear states are constructed in the context of the quasi-particle random-phase approximation (QRPA) and tested against data on the low-lying energy spectra of the isotopes in question. The individual contributions coming from the polar-vector and axial-vector components of the hadronic current for the coherent and incoherent channels of each isotope are investigated. Th…
Measurement of Atmospheric Neutrino Oscillations at 6–56 GeV with IceCube DeepCore
2018
We present a measurement of the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters using three years of data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The DeepCore infill array in the center of IceCube enables the detection and reconstruction of neutrinos produced by the interaction of cosmic rays in Earth's atmosphere at energies as low as ∼5 GeV. That energy threshold permits measurements of muon neutrino disappearance, over a range of baselines up to the diameter of the Earth, probing the same range of L/Eν as long-baseline experiments but with substantially higher-energy neutrinos. This analysis uses neutrinos from the full sky with reconstructed energies from 5.6 to 56 GeV. We measure Δm322=2.31…
Testing effects of Lorentz invariance violation in the propagation of astroparticles with the Pierre Auger Observatory

BALDONE SCHMIDT (LATVIA) TELESCOPE ASTROPHOTOS ARCHIVE
2016
From 1967 to 2005, many astrophotos have been taken with the Baldone Schmidt telescope (80cmx120cmx240cm). These photos have being archived in theInstituteofAstronomyof theUniversityofLatvia(IAU code 069, longitude 24.4041 E, latitude 56.7734 N, altitude103 m). There are over 22000 direct and 2300 spectral photos of different regions of the sky in this archive. There are also information on the photo materials type as well as the types of color filters used for phographiing the sky fields and objects. The home page of theInstituteofAstronomy’s Baldone observatory (www.baldoneobservatory.lu.lv) has the archive’s description. Part of the description has also being published (Alksnis, et al., …
ON THE FON ASTROPLATE PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENT
2019
The plan of the photographic survey of thenorthern sky (FON) was proposed in 1976 in Golosiiv ob-servatory (now MAO NAS of Ukraine) by I. Kolchinskyand A. Onegina. The final project of the Compiled FONACcatalog (FON Astrographic Catalog) is based on the digitaldata of photographic plates exposed at four observatories. They are MAO NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine), Kitabastronomical observatory (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), Hissarastronomical observatory (Dushanbe, Tajikistan), and Bal-done observatory (Latvia)). The total amount of plates is5700. The result is expected to be the catalog of positionsand B-magnitudes of stars covered the declination areafrom -20 to 90 degrees. The estimated mean epoch…
OBTAINING POSITIONS OF ASTEROIDS FROM DIGITIZED PROCESSING OF PHOTOGRAPHIC OBSERVATIONS IN BALDONE OBSERVATORY (CODE 069)
2016
Digital processing of photographic plates of star fields allows to determine with high accuracy the coordinates and stellar magnitudes for all registered objects on these plates. The processing results can be used for a broad search for images of small bodies of the Solar system and determination of their coordinates. From the observations of earlier epoch, we can extract information about the locations of these bodies well before discovering them. Modern approach to processing early photographic observations with new technologies can be an effective instrument for rediscovery of asteroids and correction their orbits. We analyzed the results of digital processing of observations of clusters…
