Acceleration radiation and the Planck scale

2008

A uniformly accelerating observer perceives the Minkowski vacuum state as a thermal bath of radiation. We point out that this field-theory effect can be derived, for any dimension higher than two, without actually invoking very high energy physics. This supports the view that this phenomenon is robust against Planck-scale physics and, therefore, should be compatible with any underlying microscopic theory.

Progresses in 3D integral imaging with optical processing

Integral imaging is a promising technique for the acquisition and auto-stereoscopic display of 3D scenes with full parallax and without the need of any additional devices like special glasses. First suggested by Lippmann in the beginning of the 20th century, integral imaging is based in the intersection of ray cones emitted by a collection of 2D elemental images which store the 3D information of the scene. This paper is devoted to the study, from the ray optics point of view, of the optical effects and interaction with the observer of integral imaging systems.

Hybrid nonlinear observer for Inertial Navigation

This paper considers the problem of designing an observer for navigation and localization of inertial systems. Since the measurement systems used in this field have a low update rate with respect to the control algorithm, the design of a suitable observer with sampled measurements is required. Here a hybrid non-linear observer is proposed, combining two different observers with different characteristics. Hybrid Observer for Indoor Localization with Random Time-of-Arrival Measurments

In this work an indoor position estimation algorithm will be proposed. The position will be measured by means of a sensor network composed by fixed beacons placed on the indoor environment and a mobile beacon mounted on the object to be tracked. The mobile beacon communicates with all the fixed beacons by means of ultra wide-band signals, and the distance between them is computed by means of time of flight techniques. Localization from inertial data and sporadic position measurements

A novel estimation strategy for inertial navigation in indoor/outdoor environments is proposed with a specific attention to the sporadic nature of the non-periodic measurements. After introducing the inertial navigation model, we introduce an observer providing an asymptotic estimate of the plant state. We use a hybrid dynamical systems representation for our results, in order to provide an effective, and elegant theoretical framework. This paper deals with the problem of fault detection for linear uncertain time-delay systems. The proposed method for Luenberger observers is developed for unknown input observers (UIOs), and a novel procedure for the design of residual based on UIOs is presented. The design procedure is carried out based on the ${H}_{\infty }$ model matching approach which minimizes the difference between generated residuals by the optimal observer and those by the designed observer in the presence of uncertainties. Multifacet structure of observed reconstructed integral images.

Three-dimensional images generated by an integral imaging system suffer from degradations in the form of grid of multiple facets. This multifacet structure breaks the continuity of the observed image and therefore reduces its visual quality. We perform an analysis of this effect and present the guidelines in the design of lenslet imaging parameters for optimization of viewing conditions with respect to the multifacet degradation. We consider the optimization of the system in terms of field of view, observer position and pupil function, lenslet parameters, and type of reconstruction. Numerical tests are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.

To examine the diagnostic performance of PI-RADSv2 T2w and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) based lexicon descriptors, inter-observer agreement for descriptor assignment and diagnostic accuracy of the PI-RADSv2 assessment categories for multiparametric prostate MRI.176 lesions in 79 consecutive patients are analyzed, lesions are histopathologically verified by MRI-ultrasound fusion biopsy. Inter-observer variability of central corneal thickness measurements using non-contact specular microscopy after laser in situ keratomileusis.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the inter-observer variability of central corneal thickness measurements carried out with a non-contact specular microscope in patients who had undergone myopic laser in situ keratomileusis. METHODS Twenty-six eyes of 26 subjects who had undergone myopic laser in situ keratomileusis were studied with the Topcon SP-2000P non-contact specular microscope (Topcon Corp, Tokyo, Japan). Network-based H∞ output feedback control for uncertain stochastic systems

This paper investigates the problem of network-based Floc, output feedback control for a class of stochastic nonlinear systems. A novel model is proposed to describe the systems taken into two sides of communication channels in the network environment, which is more general than one side of communication channel. The design procedure of observer-based controller is presented, which, guarantees the asymptotic stability in the mean square of the resulting closed-loop system with an H-infinity performance.
