p −1-Linear Maps in Algebra and Geometry

2012

At least since Habousch’s proof of Kempf’s vanishing theorem, Frobenius splitting techniques have played a crucial role in geometric representation theory and algebraic geometry over a field of positive characteristic. In this article we survey some recent developments which grew out of the confluence of Frobenius splitting techniques and tight closure theory and which provide a framework for higher dimension geometry in positive characteristic. We focus on local properties, i.e. singularities, test ideals, and local cohomology on the one hand and global geometric applicatioms to vanishing theorems and lifting of sections on the other.

Constant sign and nodal solutions for nonlinear robin equations with locally defined source term

2020

We consider a parametric Robin problem driven by a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous differential operator which includes as special cases the p-Laplacian and the (p,q)-Laplacian. The source term is parametric and only locally defined (that is, in a neighborhood of zero). Using suitable cut-off techniques together with variational tools and comparison principles, we show that for all big values of the parameter, the problem has at least three nontrivial smooth solutions, all with sign information (positive, negative and nodal).

The role of structural disorder on luminescence of Eu-doped Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3

2020

A detailed analysis of photoluminescence of Eu-doped Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT) is performed using it as a tool for describing the local structure of NBT. The obtained results reveal the low symmetry of the Eu3+ local environment in NBT, as indicated by the observed maximal number of sublevels of the 5D0→7F1 and the 5D0→7F2 luminescence transitions, clearly observed at low temperatures. Approximation of the luminescence spectra by Gaussian peaks provides valuable information about the shift of the involved levels upon change of the excitation wavelength. Variation in the strength of the crystal field in Eu-doped NBT is evaluated. Temperature dependence of the luminescence above room temperature i…

High pressure theoretical and experimental analysis of the bandgap of BaMoO4, PbMoO4, and CdMoO4

2019

We have investigated the origin of the bandgap of BaMoO4, PbMoO4, and CdMoO4 crystals on the basis of optical absorption spectroscopy experiments and ab initio electronic band structure, density of states, and electronic localization function calculations under high pressure. Our study provides an accurate determination of the bandgaps Eg and their pressure derivatives d E g / dP for BaMoO4 (4.43 eV, −4.4 meV/GPa), PbMoO4 (3.45 eV, −53.8 meV/GPa), and CdMoO4 (3.71 eV, −3.3 meV/GPa). The absorption edges were fitted with the Urbach exponential model which we demonstrate to be the most appropriate for thick crystals with direct bandgaps. So far, the narrowing of the bandgap of distinct PbMoO4…

High spatial resolution strain measurements at the surface of duplex stainless steels

2007

International audience; The determination of local strain fields at the surface of materials is of major importance for understanding their reactivity. In the present paper, lithography is used to fabricate grid points at the microscale and to map strain gradients within grains and between grains. This method was applied to duplex stainless steels which exhibit heterogeneous strain distributions under straining conditions. The influence of various parameters (the specimen microstructure, the density of slip bands, the number of systems activated and the grid geometry) on the strain value was discussed.

Partial discharge detection and localization along medium voltage cables

2017

In the last years different partial discharge (PD) measuring techniques have been developed because PD diagnostic is the most widely tool to evaluate the insulation condition of a power cable. Recently non-conventional methods and sensors have been used in order to reach improved results in PD measurements. The purpose of this work is to perform measurements that allow to study the variation of pulses when they travel along a MV cable and to locate the pulse source through the time arrival difference of the pulses obtained from two sensors installed separately.

Crystalline phase detection in glass ceramics by EPR spectroscopy

2018

The advances of EPR spectroscopy for the detection of activators as well as determining their local structure in the crystalline phase of glass ceramics is considered. The feasibility of d-element (Mn2+, Cu2+) and f-element (Gd3+, Eu2+) ion probes for the investigation of glass ceramics is discussed. In the case of Mn2+, the information is obtained from the EPR spectrum superhyperfine structure, for Gd3+ and Eu2+ probes – from the EPR spectrum fine structure, whereas for Cu2+ ions the changes in the EPR spectrum shape could be useful. The examples of EPR spectra of the above-mentioned probes in oxyfluoride glass ceramics are illustrated. ----/ / /---- This is the preprint version of the fol…

Phase transitions in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-(Sr0.7Bi0.2)TiO3-PbTiO3 solid solutions

2016

ABSTRACTIncreasing of Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 concentration in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 solid solutions causes increasing of Bi/Na relation and vacancies in the A-site of perovskite structure. In temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity, such a change of composition is reflected by transforming of the frequency-dependent shoulder into a maximum characteristic for relaxor ferroelectrics and diminishing of the frequency-independent maximum characteristic for Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3. Here changes in behavior of dielectric permittivity and polarization are studied if PbTiO3 is added in a certain concentration range of Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 solid solutions. Changes of the characteristic temp…

A Local Study of the Transport Mechanisms in MoS2 Layers for Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

2018

MoS2-based vertical spintronic devices have attracted an increasing interest thanks to theoretical predictions of large magnetoresistance signals. However, experimental performances are still far from expectations. Here, we carry out the local electrical characterization of thin MoS2 flakes in a Co/Al2O3/MoS2 structure through conductive tip AFM measurements. We show that thin MoS2 presents a metallic behavior with a strong lateral transport contribution that hinders the direct tunnelling through thin layers. Indeed, no resistance dependence is observed with the flake thickness. These findings reveal a spin depolarization source in the MoS2-based spin valves, thus pointing to possible solut…
