German self-governance. Thirty years of constitutional and structural changes in reunified Germany

2022

Local government is one of the most important institutions of a democracy based on the nile of law in Germany. Its position and role were shaped immediately after the end of World War II. This paper aims to present and evaluate tire constitutional and structural changes that have taken place in German local government within the 30years of the post-unification period. The present study is based on the hypothesis that the constitutional and structural changes of German local government in the past 30years have aimed to make its bodies and institutions Work more effectively as well as to strengthen and deepen democracy, thus increasing its impact on the federal government. These changes have …

Manometric assessment of oesophageal involvement in progressive systemic sclerosis, morphoea and Raynaud's disease.

1982

SUMMARY Oesophageal function was studied by radiography and manometry in fifty-one patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), fourteen patients with morphoea, twelve patients with Raynaud's disease and twenty-one normal subjects. Upper oesophageal sphincter pressure was not affected. Peristaltic contractions of the upper third of the oesophagus were significantly decreased in PSS and morphoea, but the lower two-thirds were affected only in PSS. Lower oesophageal sphincter pressure was significantly decreased in PSS but was normal in morphoea and Raynaud's disease. There was a significant correlation between oesophageal dysfunction and the duration of PSS. Manometry was better than …

Osteogenic differentiation of periodontal fibroblasts is dependent on the strength of mechanical strain

2012

Abstract Objective During orthodontic therapy the correct strength of mechanical strain plays a key role for bone remodelling during tooth movement. Aim of this study was to investigate the osteogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPdLF) depending on the applied strength of mechanical strain compared to osteoblasts (HOB). Design HPdLF and HOB were loaded with different strengths (1%, 5% and 10%) of static mechanical strain (SMS) for 12 h in vitro. Viability was verified by MTT and apoptosis by TUNEL assay. Gene expression of cyclin D1, collagen type-1 (COL-I), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin, osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor activator of the NF-κB liga…

Wirbelsäulenmanifestationen der chronischen rekurrierenden multifokalen Osteomyelitis (CRMO)

2002

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a systemic osteo-articular disease that is characterized by a sterile, primarily chronic osteomyelitis with various distribution patterns of the individual lesions. In this article, we describe the "axial type" with predominant involvement of the spine, which represents 13 of our 41 CRMO cases of different age groups. The important element of its diagnosis is the typical lympho-plasmacellular spondylitis that can be detected and staged by scintigraphy, MRI and conventional radiography. Potentially affected are all vertebrae from the mid-cervical spine to the sacrum. One or several segments can be involved, sometimes as transient inflammat…

A possible susceptibility locus for bipolar affective disorder in chromosomal region 10q25--q26.

2000

In an attempt to identify susceptibility loci for bipolar affective disorder, we are currently conducting a systematic genome screen with highly polymorphic microsatellite markers at an average marker spacing of 10 cM in a series of 75 families, comprising 66 families from Germany, eight families from Israel, and one family from Italy. The families were ascertained through index cases with bipolar affective disorder. The distribution of diagnoses is as follows: 126 individuals with bipolar I disorder, 40 with bipolar II disorder, 14 with schizoaffective disorder of the bipolar type, 40 individuals with recurrent unipolar depression, 51 with a minor psychiatric diagnosis, and two individuals…

Does hysterectomy with ovarian conservation affect bone metabolism and density?

2002

We evaluated whether hysterectomy with ovarian conservation (HYX) has an effect on bone metabolism and density in 176 healthy Caucasian postmenopausal women aged 48-59 years. Bone properties of the hip, spine, radius, tibia, and calcaneus were measured using different bone assessment modalities. In addition, bone turnover was assessed using serum bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP), osteocalcin (OC), and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) 5b as biomarkers. Our results showed that women having HYX had a significantly lower level of OC ( P = 0.017) and a marginally lower level of TRAP 5b ( P = 0.051) and higher bone mineral density (BMD) of the femoral neck ( P = 0.037) and lumba…

Complete Vocal Technique laulunopetuksen välineenä lukion musiikinopetuksessa

2015

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää miten Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) nimistä tanskalaista laulutekniikkaa voidaan hyödyntää lukion musiikinopetuksen laulunopetuksessa. Tutkimus on toimintatutkimus.
