ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the relationship between dental malocclusion and speech to understand the etiology of speech sound disorders (SSD) in schoolchildren and to make a correct diagnosis and treatment plan. Morphological parameters as predictors of successful correction of Class III malocclusion

The aim of the study was to assess pre-treatment cephalometric parameters and measurements of the size of the apical bases as predictors of successful orthodontic correction of Class III malocclusions. Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalograms and study models of 80 completed Class III subjects were examined to obtain 23 cephalometric parameters taken mainly from the analyses of McNamara and Schwarz, and to measure the size of the apical bases. Optical systems for non-invasive cardiovascular biosensing

Three portable prototype devices for cardiovascular biosensing based on reflection-type photoplethysmography (PPG) principle have been designed and clinically tested. The single-channel PPG finger sensor provides real-time measurements with fast calculation of the mean single-period PPG signal shape ("cardiovascular fingerprint", potentially useful for recognition). <title>Photonic vascular diagnostics by four-channel photoplethysmography</title>

A four-channel photoplethysmography device was designed and built at University of Latvia to detect signals from different body parts and to analyze the signal shapes. The device consists of optical contact probes, interface, and a standard PC. Clinical tests were performed with occlusion patients having vascular problems at arm or leg arteries. MR imaging of bilateral paramedian thalamic and mesencephalic infarcts: A case report

We describe MR imaging of bilateral infarction of the paramedian portion of the mesencephalus and thalamus due to an occlusion of the Percheron artery. This entity is due to one of the anatomic variants of the perforating arteries supplying the thalamus and mesenchephalus. Clinically this kind of infarction presents with neurologic impairment as a disorder of consciousness, memory dysfunctions, various types of vertical gaze palsy and psychic changes, which need to be differentiated from delirium and coma. Dynamic Augmented Kalman Filtering for Human Motion Tracking under Occlusion Using Multiple 3D Sensors

In this paper real-time human motion tracking using multiple 3D sensors has been demonstrated in a relatively large industrial robot work cell. The proposed solution extends state-of-the-art by augmenting the constant velocity model and Kalman filter with low-pass filtered velocity states. The presented method is able to handle occlusions by dynamically inclusion in the Kalman filter of only those 3D sensors which provide valid human position data. Human motion tracking was achieved at a frame rate of 20 Hz, with a typical delay of 50 ms to 100 ms and an estimation accuracy of typically 0.10 m to 0.15 m.

GPU-Based Occlusion Minimisation for Optimal Placement of Multiple 3D Cameras

This paper presents a fast GPU-based solution to the 3D occlusion detection problem and the 3D camera placement optimisation problem. Occlusion detection is incorporated into the optimisation problem to return near-optimal positions for 3D cameras in environments containing occluding objects, which maximises the volume that is visible to the cameras. In addition, the authors’ previous work on 3D sensor placement optimisation is extended to include a model for a pyramid-shaped viewing frustum and to take the camera’s pose into account when computing the optimal position.

Background The aim of this study was to establish the condylar position in a group of patients with normal occlusion, compared to Class II Div 1, Class II Div 2 and Class III malocclusions using CBCT imaging.
