The Purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of riboflavin/ultraviolet-A-induced collagen cross-linking (CXL) on central cornea, limbus and intraocular pressure (IOP). This was an animal experimental study. The right corneas of 10 rabbits were ultraviolet-A irradiated (3 mW/cm2 for 30 minutes) after de-epithelialization and instillation of 0.1% riboflavin / 20% Dextran drops. Left corneas served as controls. Samples were examined histologically one month postoperatively. Before and after treatment, IOP measurements were recorded bilaterally. A new family with an SLC9A6 mutation expanding the phenotypic spectrum of Christianson syndrome

Using targeted next generation sequencing, we have identified a splicing mutation (c.526-9_526-5del) in the SLC9A6 gene in a 9-year-old boy with mild intellectual disability (ID), microcephaly, and social interaction disabilities. This intronic microdeletion leads to the skipping of exon 3 and to an in-frame deletion of 26 amino acids in the TM4 domain. It segregates with cognitive impairment or learning difficulties in other members of the family. Abstract Parvalbumin (PV) positive interneurons exert strong effects on the neocortical excitatory network, but it remains unclear how they impact the spatiotemporal dynamics of sensory processing in the somatosensory cortex. Here, we characterized the effects of optogenetic inhibition and activation of PV interneurons on spontaneous and sensory-evoked activity in mouse barrel cortex in vivo. Inhibiting PV interneurons led to a broad-spectrum power increase both in spontaneous and sensory-evoked activity. Whisker-evoked responses were significantly increased within 20 ms after stimulus onset during inhibition of PV interneurons, demonstrating high temporal precision of PV-shaped inhibition.…

Abstract Background Postural control is based on the integration of different sensory inputs. The process of scaling the relative importance of these sensory cues (visual, vestibular and proprioceptive) depends on individuals and creates sensory preferences, leading to sensory dependences when one particular source is preponderant. In this context, the literature showed a frequent visual dependence (visual inputs weighting) in aged adults. However, the somaesthetic inputs can also be prioritised in a podal-dependent profile. To evaluate contrast sensitivity function (CSF) and color vision after implantation of either orange or yellow-tinted intraocular lenses (IOLs).Fifty-six eyes of 28 cataract patients who had bilateral implantation of orange-tinted (PC440Y Orange, Ophtec), yellow-tinted (AcrySof Natural SN60AT, Alcon), or clear (AcrySof SA60AT, Alcon) IOLs were examined. We report on a 56-year-old male with primary open-angle glaucoma who underwent mitomycin C augmented canaloplasty enabling filtration in the right eye after cataract surgery combined with a Schlemm’s canal microstent 3 years previously. He showed progressive glaucomatous optic neuropathy and was highly myopic (axial length 32.05 mm, spherical equivalent −18.75 dioptres in the right eye). Augmented canaloplasty was performed uneventfully and 360° catheterisation was achieved followed by the placement of a 10-0 polypropylene suture in Schlemm’s canal. Axon caliber and myelin sheath thickness of individual nerve fibers were evaluated in the developing human sural nerve using three different methods of measurement: 1. ocular micrometer evaluation of large fibers, 2. photographic enlargements for evaluating large numbers of nerve fibers of all sizes, and 3. electron microscopic enlargements for more precise measurements in selected nerves. The average axonal diameter doubles from 5 months gestation to about 5 years of age. Large fiber group axons increase, during the same period, by a factor of 3--3.5 with a slight decrease thereafter. Purpose To evaluate in glaucoma patients the feasibility and use of remote monitoring of intraocular pressure (IOP) with an implanted telemetry sensor during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown.
