The Peculiar Physical Properties of Nanosized Ferroics (Nanoferroics)

2013

This Chapter contains the experimental facts about size effects in nanoferroics. They include ferroelectric, ferroelastic, magnetic and multiferroic nanostructured materials. The main peculiar feature of nanoferroics is the geometric confinement originating from their surfaces and interfaces. This is in contrast to the ordinary bulk ferroics, where the sample surface plays a minor role. In particular, in nanoferroics, the surface generates the physical properties gradients in the normal (to the surface) direction. This fact yields strong size effects and spatial inhomogeneity of the nanoferroics properties, which should be taken into account to get their adequate physical description. We re…

Introduction: Why (Ever) Define Law and How to Do It

2016

This contribution addresses some problems regarding the two core aspects of Schauer’s proposal discussed by his critics in this book: the method of defining law (his proposal of anti-essentialism) and the definition of law based on the ubiquity of coercion. In this introduction, both aspects will be discussed pushing to the very limit the idea of law as a differentiated phenomenon. This means that legal theory has to take non-state law seriously. But main legal theories in the Nineteenth century are biased by the domestic assumption: law is produced by the nation-state as a coherent and rational system identified by its pedigree and supported by the state’s raw force. According to this idea…

Fine tuning of the magnetic properties in Mn3-Co Ga Heusler films near the critical regime

2021

Abstract Tunability of structural and magnetic properties of Mn3-xCoxGa films is presented by Co substitution, where critical behavior emerges 0.37 ≤ x ≤ 0.56 exhibiting a transition from tetragonal hard ferrimagnetic with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) to a cubic soft ferrimagnetic phase with in-plane magnetic anisotropy (IMA). In the critical regime, coexisting state of tetragonal and cubic phases possesses significantly low coercive field (HC = 1.9 kOe) with relatively low saturation magnetization (MS = 100~150 emu/cc) while maintaining the PMA. From first-principles calculations, moments of two Mn sites do not change upon Co substitution. However, moments of substituted Co almo…

Recapturing Joaquín “Chapo” Guzmán in the Mexican Press: An Analysis of the Front Page of El Universal, Reforma, Excélsior, and La Jornada in 2016

2018

This article, whose aim is to know exactly how the headlines of Mexico's four main newspapers have reported on the recapture of Joaquín Guzmán, will show the results of an analysis of the journalistic content of these four Mexican newspapers. These are general papers, which published information on their front page regarding the recapture of the drug trafficker Joaquín 'Chapo' Guzmán. The events took place on January 8, 2016, six months after his escape from Altiplano prison in Mexico. If the escape was spectacular-being from a high-security prison and evidencing collusion of authorities and corruption of the system-the recapture was even more so. Well-known figures, such as actors Kate del…

Phytochemical profile and bioactivity of traditional ayurvedic decoctions and hydro-alcoholic macerations of Boerhaavia diffusa L. and Curculigo orch…

2015

Decoctions (DECs) and hydro-alcoholic extracts (HEs) prepared from roots of Boerhaavia diffusa L. (Nyctaginaceae) and Curculigo orchioides Gaertn. (Hypoxidaceae) were phytochemically characterised by HPLC-DAD and profiled for their antioxidant, antigenotoxic and cytotoxic activities. B. diffusa DEC was rich in ferulic acid and vanillin, while the HE also contained boeravinone B and eupalitin. Both C. orchioides HE and DEC displayed the main occurrence of orcinol-β-d-glucoside and curculigoside A. Antioxidant activity was assayed through spectrophotometric DPPH, ABTS and β-carotene bleaching test, and using (HP)TLC bioautographic strategies. For both crude drugs, HE was the best performing p…

Ceļu digitālās reklāmas radītā apgaismojuma novērtēšanas metodes analīze

2022

STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF COBALT FERRITE PARTICLES PRODUCED BY METHOD OF PYROLYTIC SYNTHESIS

2008

ABSTRACT Magnetic fine particles of cobalt ferrite have been prepared by method of pyrolytic synthesis. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of single-phase cobalt ferrite nanoparticles in the range 6–50 nm. The size of the particles varies depending on matrix dispersity and mass content in the organic precursors. A large coercivity observed to be small for smaller single-domain particles due to superparamagnetic behavior.

Parenting in the digital era: Protective and risk parenting styles for traditional bullying and cyberbullying victimization

2019

Abstract This study analyzes the parenting styles that could act as risk or protective factors for bullying and cyberbullying victimization in Spain, considering the predisposition to aggression of the adolescents. The protective or risk effect of parenting styles for adolescents' related behavior such as antisocial behavior, school adjustment, and self-esteem was also analyzed. Study sample was 1109 adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years (49.96%, females, M = 13.88, SD = 1.38). A 4 × 2 × 2 × 2 MANOVA was applied for the outcome variables of bullying victimization (traditional bullying and cyberbullying), antisocial behavior, school adjustment, and self-esteem; with parenting style, predi…

Distribution of Pholeter gastrophilus (Digenea) within the stomach of four odontocete species: the role of the diet and digestive physiology of hosts

2005

We compared the distribution of the digenean Pholeter gastrophilus in the stomach of 27 harbour porpoises, Phocoena phocoena, 27 striped dolphins, Stenella coeruleoalba, 18 bottlenose dolphins, Tursiops truncatus, and 100 long-finned pilot whales, Globicephala melas. The stomach of these species is composed of 4 chambers of different size, structure and function. In all species, P. gastrophilus was largely restricted to the glandular region of the stomach, but the parasite tended to favour the fundic chamber in bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoises, the pyloric chamber in pilot whales, and none in striped dolphins. However, predictability at infrapopulation level was generally low, sugg…
