A Competence-based View on the Global Software Development Process
2015
The adoption of Global Software Development (GSD) models by software development companies is growing continuously. A variety of challenges such as temporal, geographical and socio-cultural distance are hindering global organizations to achieve potential benefits. As a result, organizations need support in how to overcome the challenges. The emphasis in the literature to date has typically focused on overcoming the challenges by providing tool support, management guidelines and processes. This follows the assumption that a well-established and validated process results in high quality output, not taking the actors within the process into account. While recognized as an important factor for …

Barriers to Data-Driven Decision-Making Among Online Retailers
2022
This study investigates the barriers to data-driven decision-making among online retailers. The study seeks to deepen the previous knowledge by considering data-driven decision-making as a process and identifying the critical obstacles within its different (6) stages. Qualitative interview data (N=10) collected from Finnish e-commerce professionals are analyzed. The findings show that barriers to data-driven decision-making occur at all stages during the decision-making process. The barriers are mostly related to the employees’ and the management’s expertise in collecting, organizing, analyzing, summarizing, synthesizing, and prioritizing data. In addition, attitudinal, technical, and strat…

Interspace for empathy : engaging with work-related uncertainty through artistic intervention in management education
2022
How can artistic intervention facilitate empathic engagement with work-related uncertainty in postgraduate management education? To examine this, we theorize artistic intervention as creating an interspace of temporarily suspended organizational norms through which empathy as relational knowing can emerge between participants. Drawing on an ethnographic study entitled Becoming in Academia, a nine-month artistic intervention conducted by a group of doctoral students in a Nordic business school (NBS), this paper highlights how an interspace for empathic engagement with work-related uncertainty was created by the participants through three intervention activities: aligning oneself to the other…

Museum Studies – Bridging Theory and Practice
2021
This book is a handbook for everyone who is interested in museums and the wider cultural and cultural heritage debates. In the spirit of lifelong learning, it aims to connect the humanistic discipline of museum studies with the wider context of society. Museums possess power as safekeepers of our memories. This book will, in its own small way, take part in the discussion of making our past and future memories matter, to show how important it is for us to understand our past. In our contemporary culture it often seems that no time is allowed for this kind of understanding; the constant flow of issues and “must dos” often hinders us from seeing the connections between our past and present. In…
