Organisaatio, propaganda ja valta käsitteiden pyhä kolminaisuus
2013
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on ymmärtää valta, organisaatio ja propaganda käsitteiden välistä suhdetta. Tavoitteena on kyetä avartamaan noiden käsitteiden tulkintaa johtamis- ja organisaatiotutkimuksen kannalta. Tutkimuksen kannalta teoreettisen kirjallisuuden merkitys on korkea, koska tutkimuksessa koetaan tarvetta laajentaa noiden kolmen käsitteen välistä teoreettista pohjaa.
How they walk the talk : Responsible management education in Finnish business schools
2022
Responsible management education (RME) has become a common initiative in the educational discourse of business schools worldwide. However, little is known about how (non-)engagement with RME in the past influenced the way RME is organised today. We examine this in one of the pioneering countries of RME, Finland, using extensive qualitative research materials. Our results suggest that RME has been embedded with authenticity-driven change (local context and research) since the 1990s. In the late 2000s after the legal educational reforms implemented in Finland, the prestige-driven change (accreditations) began to shape the embedding of RME. In the 2020s, both the authenticity- and prestige-dri…
Big data and HR analytics in the digital era
2019
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on how the HR function takes advantage of human resource analytics (HRA), including big data (BD), and discuss factors hindering HRA and data utilization. Moreover, the authors discuss the implications of the HRA-induced role transformation of the human resource (HR) function. Design/methodology/approach This is an explorative case study based on qualitative interviews in nine leading Finnish companies. Findings The results indicate that both technical and human obstacles, operating with very basic HR processes and traditional information systems and poor data quality, hinder adoption of advanced HRA. This, combined with lacking skills in analy…

Change Talk in Hospital Management Groups

Recent national healthcare reforms have resulted in many changes to healthcare organizations. When social realities are enacted in social interactions, changes also occur in communication through discourses. Reconciling conflicting predictions about transience and persistence of management concepts in management fashion theory and new institutionalism
2021
PurposeAlthough drawing from neoinstitutional theoretical apparatus and ontology, management fashion theory is understood as a theory that explains the transitory nature of popular ideas and practices while institutional theory explains their stabilization, persistence and further institutionalization. In a nutshell, it seems that being opposed to each other, these two theories describe and predict different, incommensurable diffusion trajectories and organizational behaviour patterns. The purpose of this paper is to unify these two competing perspectives.Design/methodology/approachThis paper makes an attempt toward further unification of management fashion theory with new institutionalism …
