Space charge behavior of different insulating materials employed in AC and DC cable systems

2017

In this work, the space charge accumulation in three different XLPE based material has been carried out by using the PEA (Pulsed Electro-Acoustic) method. The specimens provided by a cables industry have been subjected to the same DC stress during polarization time at environment temperature. Afterwards, the high voltage generator has been turned off and the amount residual charge has been evaluated. The space charge profiles during polarization and depolarization have been carried out and compared. Finally, the distribution of electric field within the samples has been reported. In particular, the maximum distortion of electric field has been calculated by taking into account the distribut…

Application of the reduced I-V Blaesser’s characteristics in predicting PV modules and cells conversion efficiency in medium and high insolation cond…

2017

Abstract The article presents theoretical foundations of application of the reduced I-V Blaesser’s characteristics in predicting a photovoltaic cell/module (PV) efficiency, together with calculation procedures. A detailed analysis of the error of this transformation method of characteristics was carried out. Its practical application in predicting efficiency of operation of various PV cells and modules in medium and high insulation conditions was demonstrated. The practical suitability of the presented method in early detection of ageing phenomena, such as, for example, absorber degradation taking place in PV modules, was demonstrated. The article was prepared on the basis of the results of…

Injected 1+ ion beam as a diagnostics tool of charge breeder ECR ion source plasmas

2015

International audience; Charge breeder electron cyclotron resonance ion sources (CB-ECRIS) are used as 1+  →n+  charge multiplication devices of post-accelerated radioactive ion beams. The charge breeding process involves thermalization of the injected 1+  ions with the plasma ions in ion–ion collisions, subsequent ionization by electron impact and extraction of the n+  ions. Charge breeding experiments of 85Rb and 133Cs ion beams with the 14.5 GHz PHOENIX CB-ECRIS operating with oxygen gas demonstrate the plasma diagnostics capabilities of the 1+  injection method. Two populations can be distinguished in the m/q-spectrum of the extracted ion beams, the low (1+  and 2+) charge states repres…

Polarity conversion of GaN nanowires grown by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy

2019

International audience; It is demonstrated that the N-polarity of GaN nanowires (NWs) spontaneously nucleated on Si (111) by molecular beam epitaxy can be reversed by intercalation of an Al-or Ga-oxynitride thin layer. The polarity change has been assessed by a combination of chemical etching, Kelvin probe force microscopy, cathodo-and photoluminescence spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy experiments. Cathodoluminescence of the Ga-polar NW section exhibits a higher intensity in the band edge region, consistent with a reduced incorporation of chemical impurities. The polarity reversal method we propose opens the path to the integration of optimized metal-polar NW devices on any…

Recent experiments have demonstrated the formation of free-standing Au monolayers by exposing the Au–Ag alloy to electron beam irradiation. Inspired by this discovery, we used semi-empirical effective medium theory simulations to investigate monolayer formation in 30 different binary metal alloys composed of late d-series metals such as Ni, Cu, Pd, Ag, Pt, and Au. In qualitative agreement with the experiment, we find that the beam energy required to dealloy Ag atoms from the Au–Ag alloy is smaller than the energy required to break the dealloyed Au monolayer. Our simulations suggest that a similar method could also be used to form Au monolayers from the Au–Cu alloy and Pt monolayers from Pt–…

Multiple low-frequency broad band gaps generated by a phononic crystal of periodic circular cavity sandwich plates

2017

Abstract We propose a new type of phononic crystal (PnC) composed of a periodic alternation of circular cavity sandwich plates. In the low-frequency regime, the crystal can modulate the propagation of flexural waves. Governing equations are deduced basing on the classical theory of coupled extensional and flexural vibrations of plates. The dispersion relation of the infinite PnC is calculated by combining the transfer matrix method with Bloch theory. The dynamic response of the PnC with finite unit cells is further studied with finite element analysis. An experiment is carried out to demonstrate the performance of the PnC in vibration isolation. Numerical results and experimental results bo…

The effect of magnetocrystalline anisotropy on the domain structure of patterned Fe2CrSi Heusler alloy thin films

2013

The effects of magnetic anisotropy on domain structures in half-metallic Heusler alloy Fe2CrSi thin film elements were investigated using high resolution x-ray magnetic circular dichroism photoemission electron microscopy. The transition of the dominating contribution from the magnetocrystalline anisotropy to the shape anisotropy is observed in square-shaped elements when reducing the size below 2.0–2.5 μm. In particular, we identify in disk-shaped Heusler elements the vortex state as the ground state. The shape-anisotropy dominated, well-defined magnetization configuration shows the potential of the Fe2CrSi Heusler alloy for applications in vortex-core- or domain-wall-devices, where the hi…
