High efficacy and safety of triple therapy in HCV genotype 1 and moderate fibrosis: a multicenter study of clinical practice in Spain.

Background and rational. Telaprevir-based therapy (TBT) has been extensively evaluated in clinical trials. So we designed a study to compare the efficacy and safety of TBT between patients with moderate fibrosis and those suffering from advanced fibrosis in clinical practice. A multicenter observational and ambispective study was conducted. It included 582 patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 1, 214 with fibrosis F2, and 368 with F3/F4 (F3: 148; F4: 220). Results. The mean patient age was 55 years, 67% male. Type of prior response was 22% naive, 57% relapsers, and 21% partial/null responders, 69% had high viral load (> 800,000 IU/mL). Haemophagocytic syndrome (HS) is a rare disease that is often fatal despite treatment. HS is characterized by fevers, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, cytopenias and hyperferritinaemia due to deregulated activation and proliferation of macrophages, leading to uncontrolled phagocytosis of platelets, erythrocytes, lymphocytes, and their hematopoietic precursors throughout the reticuloendothelial system. Multixenobiotic resistance is a phenomenon in which ATP-binding cassette (ABC) family proteins transfer harmful compounds out of cells. Daphnia magna and Lumbriculus variegatus are model species in aquatic ecotoxicology, but the presence and activity of ABC proteins have not been well described in these species. RGD motifs on the surface of baculovirus enhance transduction of human lung carcinoma cells.

Baculovirus vectors have been shown to enter a variety of mammalian cell lines and gene transfer with wild-type baculovirus (WT) has been demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo. Different protein motifs have been displayed on the viral surface to serve as ligands for cell-specific receptor molecules. We have generated recombinant baculovirus vectors displaying an RGD-motif, recognized by alphaV integrin, on the viral surface. Synthesis of Tetrapeptide p‐nitrophenylanilides containing dehydroalanine and dehydrophenylalanine and their influence on cathepsin C activity

Three dehydrotetrapeptides of rationally varying structure were prepared and tested as affectors of cathepsin C. These compounds appeared to be substrates of the enzyme, being equipotent with their classical counterparts. Thus, replacement of amino acid in a short peptide by corresponding dehydroamino acid does not prevent cathepsin C in recognizing dehydropeptide as its substrate. Neuropeptide FF increases M2 activation and self-renewal of adipose tissue macrophages

The quantity and activation state of adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) impact the development of obesity-induced metabolic diseases. Appetite-controlling hormones play key roles in obesity; however, our understanding of their effects on ATMs is limited. Here, we have shown that human and mouse ATMs express NPFFR2, a receptor for the appetite-reducing neuropeptide FF (NPFF), and that NPFFR2 expression is upregulated by IL-4, an M2-polarizing cytokine. Plasma levels of NPFF decreased in obese patients and high-fat diet-fed mice and increased following caloric restriction.
