Impact of PNPLA3 and IFNL3 polymorphisms on hepatic steatosis in Asian patients with chronic hepatitis C.

Background and aims A recent meta-analysis revealed that the genotype PNPLA3 rs738409 GG is associated with a higher risk of hepatic steatosis (HS) in Caucasian patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). However, controversial results were found regarding Asian populations. Furthermore, previous studies have shown a negative association between interferon lambda 3 (IFNL3) rs12979860 CC and HS in Caucasian CHC patients, but there have been no reports indicating any such association in Asian populations. A FRAP-Based Method for Monitoring Molecular Transport in Ciliary Photoreceptor Cells In Vivo

The outer segment of rod and cone photoreceptor cells represents a highly modified primary sensory cilium. It renews on a daily basis throughout lifetime and effective vectorial transport to the cilium is essential for the maintenance of the photoreceptor cell function. Defects in molecules of transport modules lead to severe retinal ciliopathies. We have recently established a fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP)-based method to monitor molecular trafficking in living rodent photoreceptor cells. Rev-Erb modulates retinal visual processing and behavioral responses to light

International audience; The circadian clock is thought to adjust retinal sensitivity to ambient light levels, yet the involvement of specific clock genes is poorly understood. We explored the potential role of the nuclear receptor subfamily 1, group D, member 1 (REV-ERB; or NR1D1) in this respect. In light-evoked behavioral tests, compared with wild-type littermates, Rev-Erb(-/-) mice showed enhanced negative masking at low light levels (0.1 lx). Peripherin-2 differentially interacts with cone opsins in outer segments of cone photoreceptors

Peripherin-2 is a glycomembrane protein exclusively expressed in the light-sensing compartments of rod and cone photoreceptors designated as outer segments (OS). Mutations in peripherin-2 are associated with degenerative retinal diseases either affecting rod or cone photoreceptors. While peripherin-2 has been extensively studied in rods, there is only little information on its supramolecular organization and function in cones. Individual variation in the ability to modify previously learned behaviour is an important dimension of trait correlations referred to as coping styles, behavioral syndromes or personality. These trait clusters have been shaped by natural selection, and underlying control mechanisms are often conserved throughout vertebrate evolution. In teleost fishes, behavioral flexibility and coping style have been studied in the high (HR) and low-responsive (LR) rainbow trout lines. Interaction between ROR1 and MuSK activation complex in myogenic cells

The ROR family of receptor tyrosine kinases, ROR1 and ROR2, is known to play an important role during skeletal muscle regeneration. ROR1 has a critical role in regulating satellite cell (SC) proliferation during muscle regeneration, and proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β can induce expression of ROR1 in myogenic cells via NF-κB activation. While searching for ROR1-interacting proteins in myogenic cells, we identified MuSK as a ROR1-binding protein. MuSK interacts with and phosphorylates ROR1 at the cytoplasmic proline-rich domain. The serotonergic and orexinergic systems are both involved in the regulation of sleep/wake cycle, and numerous studies show that both are involved in the migraine etiopathogenesis. Abstract Epidemiological studies of toxoplasmosis show that infection in humans is mainly caused by the consumption of raw, undercooked or cured meat. Cured “Serrano” ham is a typical pork product from the Mediterranean area, highly valued for its flavour.
