The first example of cofacial bis(dipyrrins)
2016
International audience; Two series of cofacial bis(dipyrrins) were prepared and their photophysical properties as well as their bimolecular fluorescence quenching with C-60 were investigated. DFT and TDDFT computations were also performed as a modeling tool to address the nature of the fluorescence state and the possible inter-chromophore interactions. Clearly, there is no evidence for such interactions and the bimolecular quenching of fluorescence, in comparison with mono-dipyrrins, indicates that C-60-bis(dipyrrin) contacts occur from the outside of the "mouth" of the cofacial structure.
A PTEN inhibitor displays preclinical activity against hepatocarcinoma cells
2016
Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) gene is considered a tumor suppressor gene. However, PTEN mutations rarely occur in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), whereas heterozygosity of PTEN, resulting in reduced PTEN expression, has been observed in 32–44% of HCC patients. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the small molecule PTEN inhibitor VO-OHpic in HCC cells. VO-OHpic inhibited cell viability, cell proliferation and colony formation, and induced senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity in Hep3B (low PTEN expression) and to a lesser extent in PLC/PRF/5 (high PTEN expression) cells, but not in PTEN-negative SNU475 cells. VO-OHpic synergistically inhibited cell viability…
Diastereoselectivity of 5-Methyluridine Osmylation Is Inverted inside an RNA Chain
2016
In this study, we investigated the reaction of the osmium tetroxide-bipyridine complex with pyrimidines in RNA. This reagent, which reacts with the diastereotopic 5-6 double bond, thus leading to the formation of two diastereomers, was used in the past to label thymidine and 5-methylcytosine in DNA. In light of the growing interest in post-transcriptional RNA modifications, we addressed the question of whether this reagent could be used for labeling of the naturally occurring RNA modifications 5-methylcytosine and 5-methyluridine. On nucleoside level, 5-methylcytosine and 5-methyluridine revealed a 5- and 12-fold preference, respectively, over their nonmethylated equivalents. Performing the…
The influence of tin compounds on the dynamic properties of liposome membranes: A study using the ESR method
2005
AbstractThe influence of organic and inorganic compounds of tin on the dynamic properties of liposome membranes obtained in the process of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) sonication in distilled water was investigated. This was carried out by means of the spin ESR probe method. The probes were selected in such a way as to penetrate different areas of the membrane (a TEMPO probe, 5-DOXYL stearic acid, 16-DOXYL stearic acid). Four compounds of tin were chosen: three organic ones, (CH3)4Sn, (C2H5)4Sn and (C3H7)3SnCl, and one inorganic one, SnCl2. The investigated compounds were added to a liposome dispersion, which was prepared prior to that. The concentration of the admixture was change…

Pot-Economy Autooxidative Condensation of 2-Aryl-2-lithio-1,3-dithianes
2018
The autoxidative condensation of 2-aryl-2-lithio-1,3-dithianes is here reported. Treatment of 2-aryl-1,3-dithianes with n-BuLi in the absence of any electrophile leads to condensation of three molecules of 1,3-dithianes and formation of highly functionalized α-thioether ketones orthothioesters in 51-89% yields upon air exposure. The method was further expanded to benzaldehyde dithioacetals, affording corresponding orthothioesters and α-thioether ketones in 48-97% yields. The experimental results combined with density functional theory studies support a mechanism triggered by the autoxidation of 2-aryl-2-lithio-1,3-dithianes to yield a highly reactive thioester that undergoes condensation wi…
Synthesis, characterization, and cytotoxic activity of copper(II) and platinum(II) complexes of 2-benzoylpyrrole and X-ray structure of bis[2-benzoyl…
2004
Copper(II) and platinum(II) complexes of 2-benzoylpyrrole (2-BZPH) were synthesized and characterized with IR, 1 H and 1 3 C NMR spectroscopies and coordination geometry with ligands arranged in transoid fashion. The crystal structure of [Cu I I (2-BZP) 2 ] was determined by X-ray diffraction. Death of complex treated Jurkat cells was measured by flow cytometry. The bis-chelate complexes [Cu I I (2-BZP) 2 ] and [Pt I I (2-BZP) 2 ] adopt square-planar coordination geometry with ligands, arranged in transoid fashion. Concentrations of 1-10 μM Platinum(II) complexes reduced cell survival from 100% to 20%, in contrast to the copper(II) complex which caused no cell death at a concentration of 10…
Synthesis, Structural Analysis, Fiber Formation and Preliminary Anticancer Characterization of the Organotin Polyether from Dibutyltin Dichloride and…
2012
The organotin polyether derived from reaction of dibutyltin dichloride and 2,5-dimethyl-3-hexyne-2,5-diol was rapidly synthesized employing classical interfacial polymerization in 65% yield and a chain length of 360 units. IR results are consistent with the polyether structure. Bands characteristic of the formation of the Sn-O are present and bands characteristic of the Sn-Cl are absent. F MALDI MS results in the low mass range gives ion fragment clusters to five units. Isotopic abundance matches for tin are consistent with its presence in these ion fragment clusters. In the high mass range ion fragment clusters to greater than 300 units are found. The products offer outstanding inhibition …
Preparative and spectroscopic features of ferricenium tetrachloroferrate(III). Interconversion to diferricenium ?-oxo-bis[trichloroferrate(III)]
1985
Ferricenium tetrachloroferrate(III)(1), one of the more frequently cited ferricenium salts, has recently attracted biomedical interest because of its pronounced antineoplastic activity against Ehrlich ascites murine tumor. In this paper, synthetic methods are reinvestigated in an effort to prepare pure(1) free from a common contaminant, diferriceniumμ-oxo-bis(trichloroferrate)(3). The oxodiferrate, or mixtures of this salt with(1), can readily be converted into pure(1) under acidic conditions. Conversely, dimerization of(1) with participation of water to give the oxodiferrate(3) is brought about by recrystallization of the former from moist acetonitrile/methanol in the presence of base; thi…
RCBF-quantification with 99mTc-HMPAO-SPECT: theory and first results.
1989
The activity concentrations of 99mTc-HMPAO in brain after intravenous injection were evaluated in 25 patients using SPECT. With additional first pass studies of heart and brain with the short lived isotope 195mAu, the cardiac output and the mean cerebral transit times of the patients were measured a short time before the HMPAO injection. The time dependence of 99mTc-HMPAO activity in the brain was registered during the first 5 min after injection over both hemispheres. Using a simplified three compartment model it was possible to calculate the mean retention fraction of HMPAO in brain from the time activity curves. It could be shown that the regional cerebral blood flow in ml/min per 100 g …
