Palaeoproterozoic ancestry of Pan-African high-grade granitoids in southernmost India: Implications for Gondwana reconstructions

Abstract SHRIMP dating of magmatic zircons from granitoid gneisses and charnockites of the Trivandrum and Nagercoil Blocks in the granulite terrane of southernmost India yielded well-defined protolith emplacement ages between 1765 and ca. 2100 Ma and also document variable recrystallization and/or lead-loss during the late Neoproterozoic Pan-African event at around 540 Ma. Hf-in-zircon and whole rock Nd isotopic data suggest that the granitoid host rocks were derived from mixed crustal sources, and Hf–Nd model ages vary between 2.2 and 2.8 Ga. Neoproterozoic ophiolite and related high-grade rocks of the Baikal–Muya belt, Siberia: Geochronology and geodynamic implications

Abstract We report zircon for from ophiolitic and high-grade rocks of the Neoproterozoic Baikal–Muya belt of Siberia that occupies an arc-shaped area on the southeastern margin of the Siberian craton. It consists of arc-related plutonic, metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks as well as fragmented ophiolites and high-grade metamorphic assemblages. In-situ U-Th-Pb analyses by ion-microprobe on zircon in intact textural relationships are combined with backscatter and cathodoluminescence imaging and trace element analyses to provide evidence for growth episodes of zircon. This approach helps: (a) to unravel the polymetamorphic history of aluminous migmatitic and granitoid gneisses of the regional contact aureole around the Rogaland anorthosite-norite intrusive complex; and (b) to constrain the age of M 2 ultrahigh-temperature (UHT) metamorphism and the subsequent retrograde M 3 event. Age and origin of the Böllsteiner Odenwald

The granitoid protoliths of the gneisses of the Bollsteiner Odenwald, a part of the Mid German Crystalline Rise, intruded at 405 ± 3 Ma. This age was obtained by single zircon 207Pb/206Pb evaporation measurements. It is supported by an upper discordia intercept age of 410 ± 11 Ma from single zircon U/Pb data. These granitoids were derived from hybrid magmas according to their geochemical characteristics. Inherited zircon grains with apparent ages of 882 and 1138 Ma further constrain the source heterogeneity. Forming-Free and Self-Rectifying Resistive Switching Effect in Anodic Titanium Dioxide-Based Memristors

The paper presents the resistive switching of electroforming-free Ti/anodic- TiO 2 /Cu memristors. Anodic TiO 2 thin films were prepared by anodizing Ti layers. Microscale devices were fabricated by direct laser-assisted photolithography. Experimental results showed a bipolar and self-rectifying behavior of the devices, which could be useful for crossbar array configurations. Moreover, a gradual resistive switching of the devices in both directions was observed, indicating the presence of multi-level resistance states.

Optical Whispering Gallery Mode Resonators (WGMR) can be produced by many methods, for example, by flame melting of silica fibers [1], by polishing of crystals [2], by optical lithography, by solidifying transparent materials, or using commercially available microspheres. They confine light by the total internal reflection and do not need mirror coatings. A part of radiation is traveling outside the WGMR as an evanescent wave and it is used for sensing applications. ABSTRACT During evolution, the vestibular organ was made to serve mainly two purposes: 1) to guide eye movements during sharp turns, so that the point of fixation in the visual field can be kept steady, a function accomplished by the semicircular canal system and 2) to indicate the terrestrial vertical, so that upright posture and gait can be maintained even in the dark. General remarks on the role of the vestibular system in weightlessness

Different methods are described to experimentally achieve weightlessness. Since the function of the otolith system depends on the presence of contact forces opposing gravity, it is disabled in weightlessness and may send misleading positional information to the brain. Without the contributions of the otolith system it is difficult in space to distinguish self-motion from object motion. Responses to eccentric rotation in two space-bound subjects

Two subjects were rotated eccentrically in the manner described previously. In contrast to a normal control group, settings of a luminous line to the subjective vertical were almost unrelated to the gravitoinertial vector before, and totally so shortly after, space flight. Only 3 days postflight did a clear relation to the gravitoinertial vector re-establish itself in the one subject who actually flew. The correspondence became normal 5 days after the flight.
