Off-line dansylation of amines using C18 solid-phase packings: study of the fluorescence and chemiluminescence detection by post-column derivatizatio…

1999

Abstract Dansylation of amines (primaries and secondaries) using C18 solid-phase supports is described. The time of analysis and the handing sample have been markedly improved with respect to those required for solution dansylation. The dansylated amine derivates were injected onto the liquid chromatography system and fluorescence detected. The sensitivity and selectivity is better than the other dansylation procedures described in the literature and also better than other derivatization reagents such 1,2-napthoquinone 4-sulfonate (NQS) or 3,5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride (3,5-DNB). Dansyl compounds can also form chemiluminescent derivatives, therefore a post-column derivatization procedure with…

Ferromagnetic coupling through the oxalate bridge in heterobimetallic Cr(III)–M(II) (M = Mn and Co) assemblies

2019

Abstract Two novel compounds, {[Cr(pyim)(ox)2]2Mn}n·2nCH3OH (1) and {[Cr(pyim)(ox)2]2Co(H2O)2}·7.5H2O (2) [pyim = 2-(2′-pyridyl)imidazole and H2ox = oxalic acid], were synthesized by using the mononuclear chromium(III) complex PPh4[Cr(pyim)(ox)2]·H2O (PPh4+ = tetraphenylphosphonium) as metalloligand towards the fully solvated manganese(II) (1) and cobalt(II) (2) ions as perchlorate salts. The structure of 1 consists of neutral double chains, with diamond-shaped units sharing the manganese(II) ions with the two other corners being occupied by the chromium(III) ions. The two metal centres in 1 are connected by bis-bidentate oxalate groups, each [CrIII(pyim)(ox)2]− unit being bound to two mang…

RAPID LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF TETRACYCLINES IN ANIMAL FEEDS USING A SURFACTANT SOLUTION AS MOBILE PHASE

2002

ABSTRACT A chromatographic procedure was developed for the determination of oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), chlortetracycline (CTC), doxycycline (DC) and minocycline (MINO) in animal feeds. Clear analyte-rich extracts were obtained using a 1 : 1 acetonitrile/water mixture buffered at pH 3. The extracts were injected into a conventional unprotected C18 chromatographic column and eluted with a mobile phase of 0.05 M sodium dodecyl sulfate/5% 1-butanol/0.01 M oxalic acid at pH 3. Good resolution was achieved for the five compounds, whereas OTC and TC coeluted with an optimized aqueous-organic mobile phase of methanol/acetonitrile/0.01 M oxalic acid at pH 3. Mean recoveries from spike…

Electrochemical incineration of oxalic acid at boron doped diamond anodes: Role of operative parameters

2008

The electrochemical incineration of oxalic acid (OA) at boron doped diamond (BDD) anodes was investigated both theoretically and experimentally in order to find the influence of the operative parameters on the performances of the process. Polarization curves and chronoamperometric measurements indicate the probable occurrence of a direct electrochemical oxidation of OA at the surface of the BDD anode at low pH and of a hydroxyl radical-mediated reaction at high pH. When incineration electrolyses are performed at low pH with potentiostatic alimentation, a dramatic influence of the potential is observed. In amperostatic incineration, high CE are obtained when most part of the process was unde…

Solid acid-catalyzed depolymerization of barley straw driven by ball milling

2015

This study describes a time and energy saving, solvent-free procedure for the conversion of lignocellulosic barley straw into reducing sugars by mechanocatalytical pretreatment. The catalytic conversion efficiency of several solid acids was tested which revealed oxalic acid dihydrate as a potential catalyst with high conversion rate. Samples were mechanically treated by ball milling and subsequently hydrolyzed at different temperatures. The parameters of the mechanical treatment were optimized in order to obtain sufficient amount of total reducing sugar (TRS) which was determined following the DNS assay. Additionally, capillary electrophoresis (CE) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometr…

Insight on bacteria communities in outdoor bronze and marble artefacts in a changing environment

2022

Epilithic bacteria play a fundamental role in the conservation of cultural heritage (CH) materials. On stones, bacterial communities cause both degradation and bioprotection actions. Bronze biocorrosion in non-burial conditions is rarely studied. Only few studies have examined the relationship between bacteria communities and the chemical composi- tion of patinas (surface degradation layers). A better comprehension of bacterial communities growing on our CH is fundamental not only to understand the related decay mechanisms but also to foresee possible shifts in their compo- sition due to climate change. The present study aims at (1) characterizing bacterial communities on bronze andmarble s…

Electrochemical oxidation of organics in water: Role of operative parameters in the absence and in the presence of NaCl

2008

The electrochemical oxidation of organics in water was investigated theoretically and experimentally to determine the role of several operative parameters on the performances of the process in the presence and in the absence of sodium chloride. Theoretical considerations were used to design the experimental investigation and were confirmed by the results of the electrochemical oxidation of oxalic acid (OA) at boron doped diamond (BDD) or IrO(2)-Ta(2)O(5) (DSA-O(2)) anodes in a continuous batch recirculation reaction system equipped with a parallel plate undivided electrochemical cell. Polarization curves and chronoamperometric measurements indicated that, in the presence of chlorides, the a…

Comparative electrochemical treatments of two chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons. Time course of the main reaction by-products.

2011

The chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons conjugate toxicity with high chemical stability, bioaccumulation and long-range diffusivity. Chloroethanes are particularly ubiquitous in the industry and in household products, and their entry to the environment may entail potential risks for the living beings. At present, the US Environmental Protection Agency is carrying out the Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP), where 1,2-dichloroethane (DCA) and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (TCA) are considered as priorities for their potential effects on the endocrine system. DCA is also found in the list of priority substances drawn up by the European Commission. To avoid the release of chloroethanes int…

The nickel-support interaction as determining factor of the selectivity to ethylene in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over nickel oxide/alum…

2021

[EN] Nickel oxides supported on gamma-alumina (Ni-loading from 5 to 30 wt% NiO) have been synthesized and tested in the oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of ethane in order to determine the importance of the NiO-support interaction. The best performance was achieved by the catalyst with 15 wt% NiO; higher NiO-loadings lead to the formation of unselective bulk-like NiO and lower Ni-loadings present high proportion of free alumina surface sites. The presence of oxalic acid and/or niobium in the synthesis gel resulted in the formation of NiO particles with similar size, but higher crystallinity and reducibility than the standard 15 wt% NiO catalyst. The obtained results have revealed that, in ad…
