Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by deficient social interaction and communication besides repetitive, stereotyped behaviours. A characteristic feature of ASD is altered dendritic spine density and morphology associated with synaptic plasticity disturbances. INTRODUCCIÓN: el glutamato es el principal neurotransmisor excitatorio del sistema nervioso. Su exceso produce excitotoxicidad por sobreestimulación de los receptores NMDA y aumento de calcio intracelular, derivando en muerte neuronal. Su sal sódica, el glutamato monosódico (GMS), es un potenciador de sabor muy utilizado en la comida procesada. La EA es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa y la forma más común de demencia.
