Planar Sobolev homeomorphisms and Hausdorff dimension distortion

2011

We investigate how planar Sobolev-Orlicz homeomorphisms map sets of Hausdorff dimension less than two. With the correct gauge functions the generalized Hausdorff measures of the image sets are shown to be zero.

Shining castles and humans of metal/floral appearance ? metaphorical language in the Palaiologan romances Kallimachos and Velthandros

2019

About eight centuries after Heliodorus, the Greek novel resurfaced in the twelfth century, in Komnenian Byzantium, and again two centuries later under the Palaiologan dynasty. This latter literary revival was due to the political stability of the imperial Byzantine government, which promoted cultural production, rhetorical education, and patronage networks. Kallimachos and Velthandros, two Palaiologan romances presented as court literature, combine ancient and medieval tropes with rhetorical artistry to blur the boundaries between the artificial and the natural. Castles and objects made of precious metals thus resemble living, natural spaces, and human characters are portrayed in metallurgi…

Approximation of fixed points of multifunctions in partial metric spaces

2013

Recently, Reich and Zaslavski [S. Reich and A.J. Zaslavski, Convergence of Inexact Iterative Schemes for Nonexpansive Set-Valued Mappings, Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2010 (2010), Article ID 518243, 10pages] have studied a new inexact iterative scheme for fixed points ofcontractive multifunctions. In this paper, using the partial Hausdorffmetric introduced by Aydi et al., we prove an analogous to a resultof Reich and Zaslavski for contractive multifunctions in the setting ofpartial metric spaces. An example is given to illustrate our result.

Gentrifizierung in periurbanen Räumen Frankreichs: Am Beispiel des Umlandes von Nancy

2019

On Fourier integral operators with Hölder-continuous phase

2018

We study continuity properties in Lebesgue spaces for a class of Fourier integral operators arising in the study of the Boltzmann equation. The phase has a H\"older-type singularity at the origin. We prove boundedness in $L^1$ with a precise loss of decay depending on the H\"older exponent, and we show by counterexamples that a loss occurs even in the case of smooth phases. The results can be seen as a quantitative version of the Beurling-Helson theorem for changes of variables with a H\"older singularity at the origin. The continuity in $L^2$ is studied as well by providing sufficient conditions and relevant counterexamples. The proofs rely on techniques from Time-frequency Analysis.

For p∈(1,+∞), let f∈Lp be a 1-periodic function on the real line, with the norm of f given by ∥f∥p=(∫10|f(x)|pdx)1/p. The Lp-modulus of continuity of f is defined by ω(f,δ)p=sup0≤h≤δ(∫10|f(x+h)−f(x)|pdx)1/p, 0≤δ≤1. A partition of period 1 (or simply a partition) is a set Π={x0,x1,…,xn} of points such that x0<x1<…<xn=x0+1. For a given partition Π={x0,x1,…,xn} let vp(f;Π)=(∑k=0n−1|f(xk+1)−f(xk)|p)1/p. The modulus of p-continuity of f is defined by ω1−1/p(f,δ)=sup∥Π∥≤δvp(f;Π), where the supremum is taken over all partitions Π such that ∥Π∥=maxk(xk+1−xk)≤δ. In this paper, improving a previous estimate given by A. P. Terehin [Mat. Zametki 2 (1967), 289--300; MR0223512 (36 #6560)], it is shown th…
