Urheilumenestyksen tarkastelussa painopiste on ollut maittain toteutetussa joukkueiden, seurojen ja yksilöurheilijoiden menestyksen vertailussa. Sen sijaan paikkakuntien urheilumenestystä on tutkimuksissa vertailtu vähemmän. Tutkimuksessa jäljitettiin millaista menestystä varkautelaiset urheilijat saavuttivat 1960-luvulla ja mitkä tekijät vaikuttivat paikalliseen urheilumenestykseen? Varkautelainen urheilumenestys suhteutettiin 11 muuhun vastaavankokoiseen kaupunkiin. Tutkimuksemme sijoittuu historiallis-sosiologisen tapaus- ja rakennetutkimuksen piiriin. Global and local interactions in football : the changing field of professional football stadiums in Finland and Hungary in the 2000s

This article aims to increase understanding of the global-local contexts in football by exploring the changing field of professional football stadiums in Finland and Hungary in the 2000s. More specifically, the cases of two clubs, HJK (Finland) and Ferencvárosi TC (Hungary) are studied. We employ concepts of sport and globalization. The research data consist of semi-structured expert interviews with Finnish and Hungarian football practitioners, media and club documents, and data from observation. Set in a small town in the north of Finland, the crime TV series Ivalo (Arctic Circle, Finland, 2018) exemplifies the fascination of Nordic Noir with ‘remote’ locations as scenes of transnational crime. The plot seems to forebode the corona pandemic, portraying the spread of a life-threatening ‘Yemenite virus’ developed as a biological weapon from the Balkans to Lapland. In this article, I analyze how the virus narrative allows the series to bring new perspectives on Nordic Noir.
