This paper introduces the idea of data-driven narratives to examine how the use of information, communications, and media technologies (ICMTs) impacts the sustainable growth of economies. While ICMTs have regularly been advocated as a policy tool for growth and development, there is a research gap in empirical studies validating how such policies may be effective. This analysis is based on historical panel data from 39 economies across the developed North (19) and developing South (20). Työttömyyden ja yrittäjyyden välinen riippuvuus Suomessa

Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin työttömien ja yritysten määrien muutosten välistä riippuvuutta Suomen osalta. Työttömyyden muutoksia tarkasteltiin erikseen yritysten määrän, aloittaneiden yritysten ja yritysten toimipaikkojen muutosten suhteen aikasarja- ja paneeliaineistojen avulla. Tutkimusmenetelmänä hyödynnettiin muun muassa paneeliaineistoille soveltuvaa VAR-mallia sekä Granger-kausaalisuustestiä. Sekä Suomessa että kansainvälisesti on käynnissä jatkuva muutos työmarkkinoilla. Irtisanomiset ovat pakottaneet etsimään erilaisia taloudellisen toimeentulon keinoja. Two visual ERP experiments were conducted to investigate topic and contrast assigned by various cues such as discourse context, sentential position and marker during referential processing in Japanese. Experiment 1 showed that there was no N400-difference for new vs. given noun phrases (NPs) when the new NP was expected (contrastively focused) based on its preceding context and sentential position. Experiment 2 further revealed that the N400 for new NPs can be modulated by the NP’s contrastive meaning (exhausitivity) induced from the marker. The Effects of the Value-Added Tax on Revenue and Inequality

This paper examines the impact of the introduction of the value-added tax on inequality and government revenues using newly released macro data. We present both conventional country fixed effect regressions and instrumental variable analyses, where VAT adoption is instrumented using the previous values of neighbouring countries’ VAT systems as an instrument. The results reveal – in contrast to earlier work – that the revenue consequences of the VAT have not been positive. The results indicate that income-based inequality has increased due to the VAT adoption, whereas consumption inequality has remained unaffected. Peer reviewed
