Growing the Otome Game Market: Fan Labor and Otome Game Communities Online

2019

Otome games are a niche category of Japanese games marketed toward women. Outside its country of origin and the infrastructure of the anime media mix, its predominantly female player communities traditionally have defined these games as those that feature romance or dating simulation. In this paper, I look into how fan bloggers talk about their own work in marketing and distributing otome games beyond Japan. In the case of otome game fan blogging, the ability to shape discussions surrounding otome games also relies upon maintaining the image of players as good consumers. Although this work focuses on the practice of fan blogging, it is part of an ongoing study on otome games in English and …

Experimental study of the combined RES-based generators and electric storage systems for public buildings

2019

Abstract In the present paper, a new approach to the management of energy resources in the Research and Technology Centre of Energy (CRTEn -Tunisia) is proposed and evaluated by the monitoring of a PV installation realized for the cooperation project DE.DU.ENER.T, using renewable energy and economic criteria. The aim of this project is to improve energy efficiency order to minimize the electricity cost consumed at the CRTEn laboratory. According to the bills of electricity received, we noticed that there is a high consumption of electrical current. So, we targeted to install a photovoltaic field of 12KWc to reduce these bills by using the sustainable, green and clean sources. A theoretical …

In each of the title compounds, the anion shows evidence of extensive electronic delocalization. A combination of N—H⋯N and X—H⋯N hydrogen bonds links the ions in (I) into a ribbon of alternating centrosymmetric (18) and (26) rings, and those in (II) into simple (7) chains of alternating cations and anion with further cations pendent from the chain.

Outdoor flat-panel membrane photobioreactor to treat the effluent of an anaerobic membrane bioreactor. Influence of operating, design, and environmen…

2018

[EN] As microalgae have the ability to simultaneously remove nutrients from wastewater streams while producing valuable biomass, microalgae-based wastewater treatment is a win-win strategy. Although recent advances have been made in this field in lab conditions, the transition to outdoor conditions on an industrial scale must be further investigated. In this work an outdoor pilot-scale membrane photobioreactor plant was operated for tertiary sewage treatment. The effects of different parameters on microalgae performance were studied including: temperature, light irradiance (solar and artificial irradiance), hydraulic retention time (HRT), biomass retention time (BRT), air sparging system an…

Espungere e interpretare: a proposito dell’esodo di Ifigenia in Aulide

2014

Policy uncertainty and foreign direct investment

2020

While foreign direct investment (FDI) is known to be the most stable type of international capital flows, it may be particularly susceptible to heightened uncertainty because of its high fixed costs. We investigate the effect of domestic policy uncertainty on FDI inflows into 16 host countries using the OECD bilateral FDI panel data set and the economic policy uncertainty index from 1985 to 2013. The bilateral structure of the data enables us to disentangle pull factors of FDI from its push factors, thereby obtaining a cleaner causal identification of the higher domestic policy uncertainty effect. To alleviate remaining endogeneity concerns, we use the timing of “exogenous” elections as an …

EX-ANTE AND EX-POST MEASUREMENT OF EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY IN HEALTH: A NORMATIVE DECOMPOSITION

2013

This paper proposes and discusses two different approaches to the definition of inequality in health: the ex-ante and the ex-post approach. It proposes strategies for measuring inequality of opportunity in health based on the path-independent Atkinson equality index. The proposed methodology is illustrated using data from the British Household Panel Survey; the results suggest that in the period 2000–2005, at least one-third of the observed health equalities in the UK were equalities of opportunity. Selectivity in Propene Dehydrogenation on Pt and Pt3Sn Surfaces from First Principles

2013

Propene can be produced via dehydrogenation of propane on Pt-based catalysts; however, the catalysts are plagued by low selectivity toward propene and high coke formation. The selectivity can be improved and the coke formation reduced by alloying Pt with Sn. The alloying is known to weaken the binding of propene, which in part explains the improved performance. We conducted density functional theory calculations to study the dehydrogenation of propene on flat and stepped Pt and Pt3Sn surfaces. The steps on Pt dehydrogenate propene readily, whereas, on Pt3Sn, the steps are inert because they are decorated with Sn. Our results indicate that the high selectivity and low coking on the Pt–Sn cat…

Inflation anchoring and growth: The role of credit constraints

2022

Abstract Can inflation anchoring foster growth? To answer this question, we use panel data on sectoral growth for 22 manufacturing industries from 39 advanced and emerging market economies over 1990–2014 and employ a difference-in-differences strategy based on the theoretical prediction that higher inflation uncertainty particularly depresses investment in industries that are more credit constrained. Industries characterized by high external financial dependence, liquidity needs, and R&D intensity, and low asset tangibility, tend to grow faster in countries with well-anchored inflation expectations. The results, based on an IV approach—using indicators of monetary policy transparency and ce…
