Effect of Temperature on N2O and NO Emission in a Partial Nitrification SBR Treating Reject Wastewater

Temperature is a very important parameter during nitritation, having a direct effect on ammonia oxidation rate (AOR) and enzymatic activities which relate to both N2O and NO emission. This study aims at investigating the effect of temperature on AOR, N2O and NO production in an enriched ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) sequencing batch reactor (SBR) performing partial nitrification (PN) of synthetic reject wastewater. Synergistic combination of polyamide-coated paper-based sorptive phase for the extraction of antibiotics in saliva.

Abstract The development of analytical methods that allow the simultaneous determination of a wide range of analytes with different properties is one of the focuses of attention in Analytical Chemistry. This work describes a proof-of-concept of the synergistic extraction of a planar paper-based sorptive phase modified with a polyamide such as nylon. This as-prepared sorptive phase enables the extraction of six penicillin-derived antibiotics of different polarity from human saliva samples in the same analysis, since the analytes either interact with the paper or with the nylon. Rapid assay of resveratrol in red wine by paper spray tandem mass spectrometry and isotope dilution.

A rapid analytical approach for the assay of resveratrol in red wines, based on Paper Spray Mass Spectrometry (PS-MS) and Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) is described. The assay involves the use of the stable isotope dilution method. The analytical parameters calculated analyzing fortified samples confirm the reliability of the proposed approach, with accuracy values about 100%, and LOD and LOQ values calculated at 0.5 and 0.8 μg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, both the recovery, which was quantitative for the analyte, and the reproducibility (RSD%), checked on different days on the same wine, always below 7%, highlighted the consistency of the methodology.

Anion Recognition by a Bioactive Diureidodecalin Anionophore: Solid-State, Solution, and Computational Studies

Recent work has identified a bis-(p-nitrophenyl)ureidodecalin anion carrier as a promising candidate for biomedical applications, showing good activity for chloride transport in cells yet almost no cytotoxicity. To underpin further development of this and related compounds, a detailed structural and binding investigation is reported. Crystal structures of the transporter as five solvates confirm the diaxial positioning of urea groups while revealing a degree of conformational flexibility. Lycopersicon esculentum plants exhibit increased salt stress tolerance following treat‑ ment with adipic acid monoethylester and 1,3‑diaminepropane (DAAME), known as an inducer of resistance against biotic stress in tomato and pepper. For an efficient water and nutrient uptake, plants should adapt their water potential to compensate a decrease in water soil potential produced by salt stress. DAAME‑treated plants showed a faster and stronger water potential reduction and an enhanced proline accumulation. Salinity‑induced oxidative stress was also ameliorated by DAAME treatments. Biothiols, taurine, and flavonols, as well as tocopherols and carotenoids have been assessed in the edible pulp of Sicilian red (Sanguigna), yellow (Surfarina), and white (Muscaredda) cultivars of cactus pear. The yellow cultivar has the highest level of reduced glutathione (GSH, 8.1 +/- 0.78 mg/100 g pulp), whereas the white cultivar showed the highest amount of cysteine (1.21 +/- 0.12 mg/100 g pulp). Taurine accounted for 11.7 +/- 1.0 mg/100 g in the yellow pulp, while lower levels were measured in the others.
