Impact of comorbidity and anemia in patients with oropharyngeal cancer primarily treated with surgery in the human papillomavirus era
2016
Background. Comorbidity and anemia strongly influence treatment and outcome of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), but respective data are frequently lacking in clinical studies. We evaluated 149 cases of oropharyngeal SCC primarily treated with surgery regarding the impact of these factors on disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Methods. Data were recorded during treatment and follow-up visits. Human papillomavirus (HPV) association of oropharyngeal SCC was detected by p16 immunohistochemistry. Results. Patients with p16-positive disease were significantly less comorbid and anemic, and treated more aggressively. Comorbidity and anemia, but not p16 status, signi…
Presence of human papillomavirus and Epstein-Barr virus in the cervix of women infected with the human immunodeficiency virus
2001
The presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was sought in cervical scrapings from 110 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected women to evaluate the role of these viruses as risk factors for squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix. By using PCR, presence of HPV-DNA and EBV-DNA was found in 60.9% (67/110) and in 10% (11/110) of clinical samples, respectively. Identification of oncogenic group of HPV by hybrid capture (HC II, Murex-Digene) indicated the presence of low-risk HPV in 13 (19.4%) patients, high-risk HPV in 28 (41.8%), and both types of HPV in 26 (38.8%) patients. Squamous intraepithelial lesions were present in 59 cases, being low-grade (n = 5…

Ms. 930a, Nr. 8, Bl. 22r-23v Böttiger, Karl August. Brief an Garlieb H. Merkel, Weimar, d[en] 13.
Low Level Languages for the PAPIA Machine
1986
The paper presents the low-level languages implemented up to date to program the PAPIA machine. The parallel assembly-level P-MAGRO package, the microcode level instruction set and a machine simulating environment are described.
COMPARATIVE ULTRASTRUCTURAL INVESTIGATION ON THE ADHESIVE PAPILLAE OF THE SWIMMING LARVAE OF THREE ASCIDIAE SPECIES
2008
Ascidian swimming larvae bear three peculiar organs of ectodermic origin, named “palps” or adhesive papillae, located in the anterior region of cephalenteron. Term “adhesive” is correlated to one of the function of these structure based on secretion of an adhesive substance which enables swimming larvae to adhere to a substratum. Recently a sensory function has also been described in some Phlebobranchia papillae with a simple morpho-functional organization. There are few ultrastructural investigations in literature, sometimes disputed, able to make clear papillae cells functions. To clarify this problem, a comparative investigation has been carried out, just in this work, about ultrastructu…
The chronology of the cercopithecoidea of East Africa
1987
The East African fossil record of cercopithecoids spans nearly 20 m. y. Throughout the Miocene Epoch, the diversity of monkeys was low, although at some localities the numbers of individuals is rather high. During the Plio-Pleistocene in contrast, there was a major radiation, or radiations of monkeys, involving both colobines and corcopithecines. A late Pleistocene to Recent radiation within the genusCercopithecus still seems to be under way. The history of diversity in the monkeys is in many ways a chronological inverted mirror image of the diversity history of the hominoid primates, which were highly diverse during the lower miocene, but became less diverse through time. The east african …

Molecular chaperones expression levels and localization in non-tumoral and tumoral thyroid tissues
2018
Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most frequently occurring subtype of thyroid cancer. Exosomes (EXs) secreted from cells to the extracellular environment play an important role in intercellular communication in normality and pathology. Recent data indicates that tumor cells-derived EXs contribute to cancer progression through the modulation of tumor microenvironment(1). Heat Shock Protein (HSPs) are often overexpressed during carcinogenesis and different studies shown that they can be released by tumors cells and that the mechanism of release is mediated by EXs pathway. In this project we performed an immunomorphological study to investigate Hsp60, 90,70,27 levels expression profile…
Diversity and Evolution of papillomaviruses
2017
