Methane line parameters in the HITRAN2012 database

2013

International audience; The compilation of methane molecular line parameters was updated to include new global analyses and measurements for 12CH4, 13CH4 and 12CH3D. Over 70% of the methane parameters in HITRAN2008 were replaced; existing parameters retained were the microwave lines and the Dyad of 13CH4 near 7 μm and ν6 of 13CH3D near 8.7 μm, 12CH3D (7-4076 cm-1), hot bands of 12CH4 (1887-3370 cm-1) and normal sample CH4 (4800-5550 cm-1 and 8000-9200 cm-1). With a minimum intensity at 296 K in units of cm-1/(molecule cm-2) set to 10-37 for the far-IR and 10-29 for the mid- and near-IR, the methane database increased from 290,091 lines in HITRAN2008 to 468,013 lines, and three-fourths of th…

Friction Factor for Gravel-Bed Channel with High Boulder Concentration

2000

This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation on flow resistance law for a gravel-bed channel having bed arrangements characterized by different values of the number of boulders. The dependence is studied of a parameter, proposed for describing the gravel-bed surfaces, on the boulder concentration and on the ratio between the median diameter of the coarser particles and the median diameter of the bed layer. Flume measurements carried out for the hydraulic condition of \Itransition\N and \Ilarge-scale\N roughness (1.5 ≤ \ih/\id\d5\d0 ≤ 6.9) show that the intercept of the semilogarithmic flow resistance law depends on the ratio and on boulder concentration. For concentration…

Viscoelastic Behavior of an Epoxy Resin Modified with Recycled Waste Particles Analyzed through a Fractional Model

2021

It is well-known that the addition of randomly dispersed particles in polymers influences their linear viscoelastic behavior and dynamic mechanical properties. The aim of this study was to describe the viscoelastic behavior of an epoxy resin modified by waste glass and rubber particles using the linear fractional spring-pot model. Unlike complex classical exponential models, fractional models, being only two-parameter dependent, make it easier to characterize the viscoelastic behavior of materials. Isothermal relaxation and single frequency sweep temperature dynamic tests were carried out in a dynamic mechanical analyzer DMA150 by varying the content of the particles from 0 to 20% by weight…

Biopolymer-Targeted Adsorption onto Halloysite Nanotubes in Aqueous Media.

2017

Studies on the adsorption of biopolymers onto halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) in water were conducted. Three polymers with different charges-anionic (pectin), neutral (hydroxypropyl cellulose), and cationic (chitosan)-were chosen. The thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption of polymers onto the HNT surface were determined by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). The experimental data were interpreted based on a Langmuir adsorption model. The standard variations in free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of the process were obtained and discussed. Turbidimetry was used to evaluate the stability of functionalized nanoparticles in water. The ζ-potential clarified the surface charge properties of …

Non-destructive Approach to Multilayer Objects: XRF Analysis of Gilt and Enamelled Metals of the Medieval Cross of Rosciolo

2013

Abstract The penetration of X-rays is usually a limitation to the application of XRF analysis to multilayered materials, however it is possible, by software tools based on the fundamental parameters method, to overcome this problem and estimate thickness and composition of each layer. The cross of Rosciolo is a significant example of multilayer object: it is made of a wood core with attached gilt silver sheets and decorated with enamels. Measurements were carried out in situ and the PyMCA software was employed. The values of gilding thickness, Au/Hg ratios and Cu content in the silver sheets, and enamel's composition are discussed.

Reduction of oxygen to H2O2 at carbon felt cathode in undivided cells. Effect of the ratio between the anode and the cathode surfaces and of other op…

2019

Abstract In the last years, the electrochemical conversion of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide at carbon felt has been largely studied in order to define a new route for the production of H2O2 and to optimize the electro-Fenton process, which is based on the cathodic generation of H2O2. In particular, many studies regarding electro-Fenton process were carried out in undivided cells in order to avoid the costs of the separator and to reduce the cell potentials. Hence, in order to optimize the cathodic conversion of oxygen to H2O2 in undivided cells, the effect of many parameters linked to the anodic process were here evaluated. In particular, it was demonstrated that the performances of the proce…

Isotopic Effect In Extended X-Ray-Absorption Fine Structure of Germanium

2008

Extended x-ray absorption fine structure has been measured on two powdered samples of 70Ge and 76Ge as a function of temperature from 20 to 300 K. The effect of isotopic mass difference on the amplitude of relative atomic vibrations is neatly evidenced by the temperature dependence of the difference of Debye-Waller factors. The isotopic effect is also detected on the difference of nearest-neighbor average ineratomic distances, thanks to a resolution better than 10 fm. (DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.100.055901)

The influence of roughness geometry and shields parameter on flow resistance in gravel-bed channels

1997

The spatial variability of bed particles of a gravel-bed channel is analysed and treated experimentally in order to simulate the effects of the arrangement of coarse bed elements on the flow resistance law. For the studied bed patterns, characterized by the concentration Γ of coarser elements arranged on the bed layer, a particle arrangement parameter α is proposed. The α parameter is useful for estimating the intercept b0 of the semi-logarithmic flow resistance law deduced by flume measurements carried out for the hydraulic condition of large-scale and transition roughness. The differences between the experimental friction factor parameter values and the ones calculated by the proposed sem…

X-ray fluorescence investigation of gilded and enamelled silver: The case study of four medieval processional crosses from central Italy

2013

Abstract The presence of multilayered structures is common in such cultural artefacts as paintings, corroded metals, objects that underwent a whatever form of surface qualification. One of the most usual and complete ways to investigate such structures is observing a cross section, which requires sampling. There are however situations where at least part of the stratigraphic information can be derived non-destructively: the literature shows that X-ray fluorescence (XRF) has frequently been used, in recent years, for this purpose, with special regard to paintings and gilded metals. Aim of this paper is to further explore the suitability of XRF-based techniques to characterise multilayered st…

Study of Gasdynamic Electron Cyclotron Resonance Plasma Vacuum Ultraviolet Emission to Optimize Negative Hydrogen Ion Production Efficiency

2019

Negative hydrogen ion sources are used as injectors into accelerators and drive the neutral beam heating in ITER. Certain processes in low-temperature hydrogen plasmas are accompanied by the emission of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission. Studying the VUV radiation therefore provides volumetric rates of plasma-chemical processes and plasma parameters. In the past we have used gasdynamic ECR discharge for volumetric negative ion production and investigated the dependencies between the extracted H$^-$ current density and various ion source parameters. It was shown that it is possible to reach up to 80 mA/cm$^2$ of negative ion current density with a two electrode extraction. We report experime…
