Effect of a prenatal lifestyle intervention on physical activity level in late pregnancy and the first year postpartum

2017

Background: Despite documented health benefits for mother and baby, physical activity (PA)-level tends to decline in pregnancy. Overweight/obese and physically inactive women are two selected groups at increased risk of pregnancy complications. Thus, efficient strategies to maintain or increase PA-level in pregnancy and the postpartum period, especially among these women, are warranted. This secondary analysis examined the effect of a prenatal lifestyle-intervention on PA-level in late pregnancy and the first year postpartum, with subanalysis on initially physically active versus inactive and normal-weight versus overweight/obese women. Method: The Norwegian Fit for Delivery (NFFD) randomiz…

Splitting of surface-related phonons in Raman spectra of self-assembled GaN nanowires

2012

cited By 2; International audience; Micro Raman spectroscopy studies have been performed on GaN nanowires grown by Plasma-Assisted Molecular Beam Epitaxy on Silicon (111) substrate. From the analysis of experimental data, the emergence of a two peaks band located near 700 cm-1 has been attributed to the Raman scattering by surface-related phonons. We have analyzed the surface character of these two modes by changing the dielectric constant of the exterior medium and some experimental parameters. Furthermore, a theoretical model describing the nanowires ensemble by means of an effective dielectric function has been used to interpret the Raman scattering results. Those numerical simulations a…

Contribution to the study of the recovery of wast heat : study and optimization of Stirling engines

2012

Several machines currently used, internal combustion engines for the car industry or thermal power plants in energy, exhaust a considerable amount of heat. Generally this heat is dispersed in the atmosphere and its energy lost. So we took a special interest in external heat engines which primary energy is heat energy, and more particularly in Stirling engines. One of its main characteristics is the used of energy from heat produced externally like energy source. This allows Stirling engines to be multi-fuel and even to use natural heat energy. The study carried out is made up of two parts. First, a three zones zero dimensional finite-time thermodynamic model has been developed. It takes into…

Constraining effective rheology through parallel joint geodynamic inversion

2014

Abstract The dynamics of crust and lithosphere is to a large extent controlled by its effective viscosity. Unfortunately, extrapolation of laboratory experiments indicates that viscosity is likely to vary over many orders of magnitude. Additional methods are thus required to constrain the effective viscosity of the present-day lithosphere using more direct geophysical observations. Here we discuss a method, which couples 3D geodynamic models with observations (surface velocities and gravity anomalies) and with a Bayesian inversion scheme on massively parallel high performance computers. We illustrate that the basic principle of a joint geodynamic and gravity inversion works well with a simp…

Constraints on ultra-high-energy cosmic ray sources from a search for neutrinos above 10 PeV with IceCube

2016

We report constraints on the sources of ultra-high-energy cosmic ray (UHECR) above $10^{9}$ GeV, based on an analysis of seven years of IceCube data. This analysis efficiently selects very high energy neutrino-induced events which have deposited energies from $\sim 10^6$ GeV to above $10^{11}$ GeV. Two neutrino-induced events with an estimated deposited energy of $(2.6 \pm 0.3) \times 10^6$ GeV, the highest neutrino energies observed so far, and $(7.7 \pm 2.0) \times 10^5$ GeV were detected. The atmospheric background-only hypothesis of detecting these events is rejected at 3.6$\sigma$. The hypothesis that the observed events are of cosmogenic origin is also rejected at $>$99% CL because of…

Sequentializing Parameterized Programs

2012

We exhibit assertion-preserving (reachability preserving) transformations from parameterized concurrent shared-memory programs, under a k-round scheduling of processes, to sequential programs. The salient feature of the sequential program is that it tracks the local variables of only one thread at any point, and uses only O(k) copies of shared variables (it does not use extra counters, not even one counter to keep track of the number of threads). Sequentialization is achieved using the concept of a linear interface that captures the effect an unbounded block of processes have on the shared state in a k-round schedule. Our transformation utilizes linear interfaces to sequentialize the progra…
