Effect of Polarity of Solvent on Silanization of Halloysite Nanoclay Using (3-Glycidyloxy propyl) Trimethoxy Silane
2021
Abstract: The grafting of silane groups on clay surfaces has been recently investigated in order to fabricate versatile compounds with new potential applications in materials science and ecological engineering. This work explored the influence of variety of solvents with variable polarity on the silanization of halloysite nanoclay (HNT) surface by (3-Glycidyloxy propyl) trimethoxy silane. To this purpose, the functionalization of HNT by 3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GOPTMS) has been conducted in Ethanol (polar protic solvent), Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Acetonitrile (polar aprotic solvents), and Hexane, 1,4-Dioxane and Toluene (non polar solvents). The silane grafted materials were ch…
Growth, Structure, and Stability of KxWO3 Nanorods on Mica Substrate
2012
International audience; KxWO3 nanorods, interesting as gas sensors, were elaborated on mica muscovite substrate and characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and mainly transmission electron microscopy. A combination of structural analyses allowed determining the morphology of these rods, and selected area electron diffraction experiments pointed out the simultaneous presence of the exotic hexagonal and stable monoclinic phases. Moreover, the presence of potassium inside the nanorods, coming from the mica substrate, was revealed. By combining all the observations, a growth model is proposed, consisting of the stacking of two di…
Scattering and Depolarization in a Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal Cell
2008
An imaging polarimeter in transmission has been used to explore the effects of scatter and depolarization induced by a polymer dispersed liquid crystal cell. The experiment was carried out for three visible wavelengths. Both a directional and a scattered component can be distinguished in the light transmitted by this material. Whereas the directional component increased with voltage, the scattered portion decreased. This was a common behaviour for all three wavelengths. The polarimetric analysis revealed that the degree of polarization was also affected by changes in the voltage applied to the cell. Depolarization effects in the scattered component were usually high and decreased with volta…
TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT NOISY MODELS OF PSEUDOMORPHIC HEMTs
1994
From a complete characterization in terms of noise and scattering parameters carried out at room temperature in the 8–16 GHz frequency range, the noisy small‐signal model of a pseudomotphic HEMT series has been extracted. The transistor scattering parameters have been subsequently measured at lower temperatures (down to −50 °C) by placing the device text fixture in a thermo‐controlled chamber. The model effectiveness has then been tested by determining the circuit element values at the different temperatures and by observing the model noise performance.
Dependence of the Optical Constant Parameters of p-Toluene Sulfonic Acid-Doped Polyaniline and Its Composites on Dispersion Solvents
2020
The optical constants of Para-Toluene sulfonic acid-doped polyaniline (PANI), PANIchitosan composites, PANI-reduced graphene-oxide composites and a ternary composite comprising of PANI, chitosan and reduced graphene-oxide dispersed in diluted p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) solution and N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent have been evaluated and compared. The optical constant values were extracted from the absorbance spectra of thin layers of the respective samples. The potential utilization of the materials as the active sensing materials of surface plasmon resonance biosensors has also been assessed in terms of the estimated value of the penetration depth through a dielectric medium. The …
Petri Net Modelling of the Starch Enzymatic Liquefaction
2012
This paper investigates the use of the Petri Net modelling language for the description and analysis of the enzymatic reactions that are used for the starch liquefaction. The Coloured Petri Net formalism supported by the CPN Tools modelling and simulation environment is used. The pools of substrates and products are represented as the places and the possible reactions as the transition of the net. The concurrent reactions are modelled trough transitions that are enabled at the same time. The occurrence probabilities associated with each of these concurrent transitions are chosen as the model parameters. The analysis of the specific properties of the model is used to fit the model to data fr…
Main Fuel Cells mathematical models: Comparison and analysis in terms of free parameters
2010
This paper resumes the main mathematical models of Fuel Cells (PEM models). In particular, a comparison study of the various models introduced in the technical literature is presented and the dependency of the various model parameters is analyzed in different operating conditions. As the manifold of the model parameter is very wide and their determination is difficult, it is mandatory to introduce approximations and simplifications on which each model is based. The novelty of this work is the organization of the existing models in three categories with regard to the number of free parameters and to the dependency of such parameters on the different running conditions and the usage of a refe…
Stochastic dynamics of linear elastic trusses in presence of structural uncertainties (virtual distortion approach)
2004
Structures involving uncertainties in material and/or in geometrical parameters are referred to as uncertain structures. Reliability analysis of such structures strongly depends on variation of parameters and probabilistic approach is often used to characterize structural uncertainties. In this paper dynamic analysis of linearly elastic system in presence of random parameter variations will be performed. In detail parameter fluctuations have been considered as inelastic, stress and parameter dependent superimposed strains. Analysis is then carried out via superposition principle accounting for response to external agencies and parameter dependent strains. Proposed method yields asymptotic s…
Wideband impedance matrix representation of passive waveguide components based on cascaded planar junctions
2009
[1] A very efficient technique for the full-wave analysis of passive waveguide components, composed of the cascade connection of planar junctions, is presented. This novel technique provides the wideband generalized impedance matrix representation of the whole structure in the form of pole expansions, thus extracting the most expensive computations from the frequency loop. For this purpose, the structure is segmented into planar junctions and uniform waveguide sections, which are characterized in terms of wideband impedance matrices. Then, an efficient iterative algorithm for combining such matrices, and finally providing the wideband generalized impedance matrix of the complete structure, …
