Brothers, sisters and the rearrangements of property on the Sicilian island of Stromboli in the nineteenth century

This article focuses on property relationships among siblings, especially on sales and exchanges of land, houses and other items, on the small Sicilian island of Stromboli in the Aeolian archipelago during the nineteenth century. Stromboli's economy incorporated farming and seafaring activities. The ‘modular structure’ of houses and wealth was characterised by partible inheritance, with equal inheritance shares or endowments for both sons and daughters, which was permitted under the Civil Code of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Il contributo considera le ricadute della sentenza n. 79/2022 della Corte costituzionale sulle due figure dell'adozione piena e dell'adozione in casi particolari dei minori di età con particolare riferimento alla posizione del bambino adottato in casi particolari e dei legami con la famiglia di origine e con quella del/gli adottante/i. Evidenziate talune aporie del ragionamento della Consulta, riflette criticamente sulla bontà del ricorso all'adozione in casi particolari per dare copertura giuridica al legame tra il genitore d'intenzione non biologico e il nato da gestazione per altri, specie in caso di omogenitorialità, in vista del perseguimento del migliore interesse del minore.

Taking the contemporary rethinking of the descent notion in Lowland South American ethnography as a starting point, the article provides an analysis of matrilineal descent among the Wayú. Using new ethnographical data, special attention is paid to indigenous concepts and to the way matrilineal descent articulates with other principles of social classification. This article studies the status of images concerning the most important parental configuration of the Christian horizon: the relationship between the Virgin and her Son. The iconographic tradition, especially Byzantine, illustrated the different facets of this relationship, including those generated by the belief in the virgin birth and the Trinity. It also helped to stabilize the myths of the gospels (canonical and apocryphal) which promoted it. Strictly mixed with the liturgical word and popular rituals, the images help to understand better the symbolic work that underlies reversed filiation (visible for example in the Dormitio virginis).
