Laparoscopic management of cholecystocolonic fistula: A case report and a brief literature review

2020

Highlights • Cholecystoenteric fistula is a rare and late complication of cholelithiasis. • We report a case of cholecysto-colonic fistula with hepatic flexure management by laparoscopic approach, a 64 years old male patients with fever of an unknown origins for two months and abdominal pain. • We performed laparoscopic cholecystectomy and repaired colonic wall with intra-corporeal sutures. • The laparoscopic management of cholecystoeneteric fistula is a feasible and safe procedure but the operative strategy should be individualized.

Acute appendicitis and situs viscerum inversus: radiological and surgical approach—a systematic review

2023

Abstract Introduction Acute appendicitis is one of the most frequent intra-abdominal diseases requiring emergency surgical consult and treatment. The diagnosis of this condition is based on clinical features and radiologic findings. One-third of patients with acute appendicitis present unusual symptoms. There are several circumstances that may cause misdiagnosis and unclear prognostic prediction. Among these, situs viscerum inversus totalis and midgut malrotation can be challenging scenarios, leading to a delay in treatment, especially when these conditions are unknown. We decided to carry on a systematic review of published cases of acute appendicitis in the context of anatomical anomalies…

The Small Size and Superficial Location Suggest That Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy Is the First Choice for the Treatment of Juxtaglomerular Cell T…

2021

BackgroundJuxtaglomerular cell tumor (JGCT) is a very rare disease, and surgical resection is the only possible way to cure this tumor. Open nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy have been reported to manage JGCTs with excellent results in the previous reviews. Laparoscopic surgery has been popularized in recent years, while critical issues associated with laparoscopic surgical management have been seldom reported. We summarized the JGCTs in our center to discover the optimal surgical management and its anatomic foundation.MethodsIn this retrospective study, we enrolled a total of 14 JGCT patients. All patients received surgeries and were followed up for up to 11 years. We mainly summarized t…

A Good Breath of Oxygen for Beta-Like Cells Obtained From Porcine Exocrine Pancreatic Tissue

2011

Ischemia is the most important factor that affects organ survival during harvesting. The two-layer method (TLM) is one of several cold storage solutions that seeks to preserve organs and cells avoiding in vivo and in vitro ischemia. We compared the retrieval of beta-like elements from exocrine pancreatic cells using TLM versus University of Wisconsin (UW) solutions. For this purpose pancreata laparoscopically harvested from 20 female pigs were preserved in UW solution or TLM before digestion. The resulting exocrine cells were divided into 2 groups: the first was cultured in a designed medium to allow differentiation into beta-like cells and the second was cryopreserved before the differenti…

2006

Adrenal myelolipoma is a rare benign, non-functioning tumor consisting of fat and hematopoietic tissues. In January 2005 we had observed an adrenal myelolipoma in 70 year old man. During the follow-up for bladder urothelioma, an abdominal CT revaled a well delineated 4x4 cm homogeneous fatty mass in the right suprarenal area with negative attenuation values. The functional study of adrenal gland was normal. The patient underwent videolaparoscopic right adrenalectomy (Gagner technique). Postoperative course was uneventful. The istological diagnosis showed adrenal myelolipoma. We conclude that videolaparoscopic adrenalectomy should be considered the gold standard treatment for benign adrenal …

The Association of Appendectomy, Adhesions, Tubal Pathology, and Female Infertility.

2019

Background and Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate a potential association between previous childhood appendectomy, tube pathology, and female infertility. Methods: We reviewed patients seeking care at the fertility clinic of our university medical center between 2006 and 2016. The history of previous appendectomy was extracted from hospital documentation and by telephone follow-up. Tubal patency was assessed by diagnostic laparoscopy and chromopertubation. Results: In our study cohort (N = 237), 24.9% (n = 59) had a history of previous appendectomy. Previous appendectomy, therefore, was about 3-fold more prevalent in women seeking fertility treatment than in the general pop…

Different types of intestinal atresia in identical twins

2008

The authors present a previously unreported association of different types of intestinal atresia in identical low-birth-weight twins. Both babies were affected by duodenal atresia, associated in the first case with a complete mucosal duodenal membrane and in the second one with an "apple-peel" jejunal atresia. These occurrences may suggest that they were either the consequence of linkage of 2 genes or a pleiotropic expression of a single gene responsible for such rare conditions.

Warthin's tumor distribution within the parotid gland. A feasible etiologic source from lymph nodal tissue.

2010

AIM: Warthin's tumor (WT) is the second commonest parotid gland neoplasm after pleomorphic adenoma (PA). It mainly arises from the lower pole of the superficial parotid lobe (i.e., tail of gland), a site with the greatest distribution of intra-parotid lymph nodes, and its definitive etiopathogenesis is still unclear. The aim of this study was to support the strict topic and etiologic link hypothesised between this tumor and the intraparotid lymph nodes, as being massively present in the tail, by assessing the WT distribution within the parotid gland. METHODS: Seventy-one WTs excised from 64 patients were compared retrospectively with 134 PAs from 133 patients, as controls. In all sample, st…
