Eutrophication of aquatic ecosystems is an increasing problem, especially threatening small and shallow freshwater lakes. While the extreme inputs of nutrients (phosphorus and nitrogen) can nowadays be reduced and controlled rather efficiently, additional measures to reverse eutrophication may be needed. These often involve biomanipulation, typically mass removal of cyprinid fish. However, the success of biomanipulations has many times been limited or short lived. Alcuni sono confusi; altri cercano di eludere il problema; altri ancora puntano a salvaguardare il rapporto con il singolo e a recuperare la “pecorella smarrita”. Sono tante le contraddizioni che emergono dalle risposte raccolte dalla prima indagine scientifica - di cui il saggio presenta alcuni risultati - che interroga direttamente i parroci della diocesi palermitana, tentando di far luce sul rapporto tra pastorale religiosa e radicamento mafioso nella società. Lo scenario che si compone è quello di una chiesa divisa, molto conflittuale con le istituzioni dello Stato, spesso incapace di cogliere la gravità del problema mafioso e dei suoi effetti sulla comunità.

Flamingo studies: a general introduction.

The first part of this chapter provides a general introduction to the various extant species of flamingos, including their physical descriptions, unique characteristics, numbers in the wild, and geographical distributions. The second part depicts a brief history of the discovery and scientific study of flamingos, from the earlier accounts dating from the 16th century to the development of the first long-term studies of banded populations in the second half of the 20th century. The third and final part of this chapter offers some perspectives for future research.
Can we organize courage? Implications of Foucault's parrhesia

Ethics in organizations, raising concerns, and whistleblowing have been previously theorized through Foucault's work on the power/knowledge bond. However, approaching these issues through the work from Foucault's third period on parrhesia, or fearless speech remains an underdeveloped route. This paper contributes to this emerging research stream. Based on Foucault's work on parrhesia, and the importance of courage for fearless speech to occur, we theorize the possibility of critique within organizations as a moment of disorganizing, which requires a chain of parrhesia where not only the speaker but also the hearer requires courage. Participation has increasingly become a means and an end for successful and ‘empowering’ social policy. Building on previous governmentality critiques of participatory initiatives, this article investigates practices of resistance in the context of Finnish participatory social policy. I adopt a Foucauldian counter-conducts approach as my lens to study critical speech as a form of resistance in initiatives that invite marginalised people as ‘experts-by-experience’ in social welfare organisations. In questo lavoro si discute di una particolare “collezione” di corpi di ecclesiastici, mummifcati ed esposti in un comune montano madonita della Sicilia, Gangi. I corpi, principalmente risalenti al XIX secolo, mummifcati per colatura come nella tradizione del tempo e vestiti degli abiti talari, sono esposti nel piano sottostante della Chiesa Madre, in quella che nella tradizione è detta la “fossa dei parrini” (fossa dei preti). This paper aims to discuss complexity as a key feature for understanding the role of science knowledge in environmental and health contexts—a central issue in Science|Environment|Health pedagogy. Complex systems are, in principle, not predictable. In different contexts, ephemeral mechanisms produce different, sometimes completely unexpected results. The art of decision-making in complex contexts is to take scientific knowledge into account but to interpret its meaning in terms of concrete complex contexts. Viestinnän demokratisoituessa viestijöistä tulee organisaatioissaan yhä enemmän koko työyhteisön kouluttajia, valmentajia ja sparraajia sekä dialogisuuden edistäjiä. Dialogisuuden edistämisen vaateesta ja sparraajan roolin noususta ja huolimatta yhteisöviestinnän kentällä ei kuitenkaan tällä hetkellä vallitse yhtenevää käsitystä siitä, mitä dialogin ja dialogisuuden käsitteillä tarkoitetaan.
