Arturo Dazzi e Marcello Piacentini: un lungo sodalizio
2020
The paper investigates the collaboration between an artist and an architect who were among the main protagonists of the Italian cultural scene of the first half of the twentieth century: Arturo Dazzi and Marcello Piacentini. Starting from the plaster model which portrays them together and that reproduces a detail of a monumental work conceived by both between 1924 and 1931, the Arco ai Caduti of Genoa, the analysis will briefly focus on the occasions when the two characters collaborated for the realization of monumental civil and religious works until the post-war period. This case is a significant example of the conception and debate about the relationship between the figurative arts and t…
SPATIAL PLANNING AS A TOOL FOR IMPROVING ATTRACTIVENESS OF THE PLACES: CASE OF LATGALE REGION
2012
According the new concepts of the regional economics and geographical literature, territorial attractiveness is an issue of growing importance for national, regional and local governments during last years. Territorial attractiveness can be defined both as the capacity to attract new residents, visitors, enterprises and investments as well as the ability to retain and develop mobile communities and assets. Medium-sized and small towns play complementary roles and are differently integrated into urban systems depending on the specific features of the country and the historical, institutional and economic development background, but at the same time its attractiveness has been increasingly re…
Applicability of Interference Coordination in Highly Loaded HSUPA Network
2010
This paper evaluates the performance of highly loaded High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) network with and without network wide static Interference Coordination (IC). IC alternates the priorities for user transmission periods throughout the network to achieve reduced interference levels and higher performance. A large variety of combinations including, e.g., different schedulers, cell center/edge user definitions (user splits) and interference targets are investigated in this paper. Performance is analyzed using a quasi-static system level simulator which is also used to support Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standardization work. The simulator contains detailed and commonl…
Building an advocacy model to improve the dementia-capability of health plans in California
2021
Background Given the high and growing prevalence of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and the intensity of this population's care needs, it is imperative that healthcare systems increase their capacity to effectively serve people living with dementia (PLwD). The Dementia Cal MediConnect (Dementia CMC) project proposes an advocacy model that may foster dementia-capable systems change. Methods The Dementia CMC project was a 5-year partnership (2013-2018) between local Alzheimer's organizations and 10 managed care health plans (HPs) in California's duals demonstration. It used an advocacy model with the following steps: (1) Identify dementia-capable best practices to set as systems ch…
Cirugía de liberación del túnel carpiano: variabilidad e impacto de la cirugía ambulatoria en la Comunidad Valenciana
2013
Objective: This study aimed to analyze variability in rates of carpal tunnel release surgery among the healthcare areas of the autonomous region of Valencia, and to evaluate the contribution of ambulatory surgery and referrals to private hospitals to the variability found. Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional, population-based study, describing the rates of carpal tunnel release surgery, standardized by age and sex, among areas in the region of Valencia in 2006. The observed variation was then analyzed using small-area analysis methods. Data from hospital admissions, referrals to private hospitals, population statistics and hospital resources were used to construct standardized rates, …
DESIGNING A TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR CHARACTER EDUCATION: AN INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP
2020
There is a need of innovative teacher training programmes for character education. This paper addresses three research questions: What are the challenges that a teacher training programme for character education should address? Two regional authorities, three schools, three universities and a centre of teacher training from Latvia, Estonia and Spain created a strategic partnership for answering these research questions, using design-based implementation research. The results include six domains of learning outcomes and a programm…
Relationship status and respiratory diseases: an analysis on a general population sample

Among 2531 subjects (age 21–86, female 50%) who underwent standardized interviews, skin prick and lung function tests, 575 cases of CA, 268 cases of PA, 968 cases of AR, 462 cases of NAR, 265 cases of CB without airflow …
The Politicization of European Union Trade Policy: Radical-Left Euroskeptic Opposition to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership
2021
This study aims to analyze the correlation between radical-left Euroskeptic (RLE) activity and European Union (EU) trade policy by focusing on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). At the beginning of TTIP negotiations, the agreement was not high on political agendas and was not a major concern within European society. Thus, its salience was low. This initial lack of interest stemmed from the fact that the TTIP, as an economic and technical issue, did not draw public attention. This study shows that RLEs profoundly affected public opinion on the TTIP by increasing its salience during the European parliamentary elections in 2014 in France and Germany. Second, RLEs involv…
