SARS-CoV-2 RNA and antibody detection in human milk from a prospective multicenter study in Spain
2021
Background During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, breastfeeding in women positive for SARS-CoV-2 was compromised due to contradictory data regarding potential viral transmission. However, growing evidence confirms the relevant role of breast milk in providing passive immunity by generating and transmitting specific antibodies against the virus. Thus, our study aimed to develop and validate a specific protocol to detect SARS-CoV-2 in breast milk matrix as well as to determine the impact of maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection on presence, concentration, and persistence of specific SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Study design/Methods A prospective multicenter longitudinal study in Spain was carried out from A…
Recent advances in using Photocurrent Spectroscopy for the Characterization of Passive Films on Metals and Metallic Alloys
2020
Development of predictive retention-activity relationship models of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by micellar liquid chromatography: comparis…
2000
The predictive and interpretative capability of quantitative chromatographic retention-biological activity models is supported by the fact that under adequate experimental conditions the solute partitioning into chromatographic system can emulate the solute partitioning into lipid bilayers of biological membranes, which is the basis for drug and metabolite uptake, passive transport across membranes and bioaccumulation. The use of micellar solutions of Brij35 as mobile phases in reversed-phase liquid chromatography has proven to be valid to predict some biological activities of different kinds of drugs. In this study, quantitative retention-activity relationship (QRAR) models to describe som…
Electronic properties and corrosion resistance of passive films on austenitic and duplex stainless steels
2018
Abstract Passive films were grown at constant potential in acidic (pH∼2) and alkaline (pH∼13) solutions on chromium, AISI 304L, AISI 316L and Duplex stainless steels. Passive films on chromium grow following a high field mechanism considering the presence of dissolution phenomena. According to the photoelectrochemical characterization, passive films on Cr have a bandgap of 3.4 eV when formed in acidic solution, and of 2.4 eV when formed in alkaline solution due to the formation of Cr(OH)3. These films result to be poorly stable against anodic dissolution due to a very anodic flat band potential. Conversely, impedance and photoelectrochemical measurements proved that passive films on stainle…
Coping with competitive situations in humans
2005
The analysis of effects of competitive situations in our species may contribute to acquiring deeper knowledge about the effects of social stress and its relationship with different pathologies. The latest studies indicate that the neuroendocrine response to competition depends more on subjective factors related to the cognitive evaluation of the situation than on the outcome itself. Findings suggest that when subjects cope with a competition, they assess it in such a way that it activates a psychobiological coping response. The pattern of this response may correspond to a predominant active or passive coping strategy, the choice ultimately depending on factors such as the importance of the …
Effects of E-Cigarette Exposure on Prenatal Life and Childhood Respiratory Health: A Review of Current Evidence
2021
In the last decade, widespread use of E-cigarettes (EC) has occurred all over the world. Whereas, a large amount of evidence on harm to children from conventional cigarette exposure is available, data on health effects in this population throughout different vulnerability windows are still a matter of concern. Exposure to EC during pregnancy may compromise placental function, resulting in fetal structural abnormalities. Specifically, this may cause physio-pathologic changes in the developing lung, which in turn may impair respiratory health later in life. Furthermore, there is evidence that using EC can cause both short- and long-term respiratory problems in the pediatric population and the…
Evidence of aerial volcanic activity during the Valanginian along the northern Tethys margin.
2009
7 pages; International audience; Stratigraphic measurement and sampling on three sections (Vergol, La Charce, and Montclus) through Valanginian deposits from the Vocontian Basin (southeastern France) reveals the occurrence of centimetre thick ochre-coloured layers, which can be correlated from one section to another. At least twelve of these are identified in sediments dated from the Pertransiens to Furcillata ammonite Zones. These horizons appear similar to previously described Oxfordian and Aptian bentonites, also from the Vocontian Basin. Clay-mineralogical and geochemical data are similar in the Valanginian ochre horizons and their enclosing marls except in one of these that shows a cla…
Electronic properties and mobile defects distribution in amorphous semiconducting passive films
2003
A study of the electronic properties of thin (drop 25 nm) a-WO3 and a-Nb2O5 is presented. Based on theory of amorphous semiconductor Schottky barrier the fitting of admittance curves in a large range of electrode potential (around 9 V) and a.c. frequency (100 Hz - 10 kHz) is performed. A density of electronic state distribution (DOS) is derived, which mimics the mobile defects distribution suggested by the classical high field model of oxides growth.
Il comfort indoor nel patrimonio edilizio esistente. Tecnologie e metodi per gli ambienti di vita
2022
This volume is the result of wide-scope research on the application of IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality) in existing buildings. The examined items are the evaluation methods and standards related to the environmental parameters for the well-being levels required to guarantee suitable livability in indoor environments. An analysis is provided on the state of the art of technological aspects in architecture for the achievement of salubrious and comfortable indoor spaces. The study is focused on passive systems for microclimatic control, with a re-proposition of the most ancient ones. Nowadays, when revisited, they have proven to be effective solutions, especially due to their possibility to …
Modelling and optimization of a passive structural control design for a spar-type floating wind turbine
2014
Abstract Compared with fixed-bottom installation, deep water floating wind turbine has to undergo more severe structural loads due to extra degrees of freedom. Aiming for effective load reduction, this paper deals with the evaluation of a passive structural control design for a spar-type floating wind turbine, and the proposed strategy is to install a tuned mass damper (TMD) into the spar platform. Firstly, a mathematical model for wind turbine surge-heave-pitch motion is established based on the D’Alembert’s principle of inertial forces. Then, parameter estimation is performed by comparing the outputs from the proposed model and the state-of-the-art simulator. Further, different optimizati…
