EASARCICAPLivre dispo. dans :hal-00832739, version 1; Publish or Perish. This old adage illustrates the importance of scientific communication; essential to research, it also represents a strategic sector for each country’s competitiveness. An often-neglected topic, scientific communication is of vital importance, with new information technologies accelerating and profoundly changing how knowledge is disseminated. The necessity of optimally disseminating experts’ findings has also become crucial to researchers, institutes and universities alike, which has prompted the recent advent of Impact Factors for the evaluation and financing of research, the goal being for scientific knowledge to be …

Selecting the special or choosing the common? A high-powered conceptual replication of Kim and Markus’ (1999) pen study

2022

Kim and Markus (1999) found that 74% of Americans selected a pen with an uncommon (vs. common) color, whereas only 24% of Asians made such a choice, highlighting a pronounced crosscultural difference in the extent to which people opt for originality or make majority-based choices. The present high-powered study (N = 729) conceptually replicates the results from Kim and Markus (1999; Study 3). However, our obtained effect size (r = .12) is significantly weaker than that of the original study (r = .52). Interestingly, given the globalization of mass media and the rapid economic progress of many Asian cultures during the last decades, a larger proportion of Chinese, but not American, participa…

2022

The EU Directive 2020/1828 is the arrival point of a troubled harmo-nization process on collective techniques for consumers’ protection, no longer limited to injunctive measures but also extended to redress ones. The essay focuses on the two provisions dedicated, respec-tively, to the binding effects of jurisdictional/ administrative decisions as well as to the exhibition orders. The Author stresses how, through those legislative measures and despite the uncertainties still related to the ongoing implementation process, a European Regulatory Pri-vate Law enforcement is being shaped more and more oriented to the consistency between its “private” and “public”dimension.

Kształcenie badawcze w czasach globalizacji z perspektywy europejskiej

2019

This qualitative research study takes a closer look at developing competent researchers and thus building research capacity within Europe. The rapidly changing research environment driven by globalisation, internationalization, technological advancements, and the use of innovative methodologies impacts how research is designed, conducted, and reported on. We argue that the current complex research environment calls for globally competent researchers able to engage in research projects and research communities across disciplines and across geographic borders. However, there is scarce empirical evidence about research knowledge and competencies which global researchers need to conduct quality…
