Financial literacy is not enough: The role of nudging toward adequate long-term saving behavior

Abstract This paper analyzes whether nudging has a relevant effect on financially literate individuals, even if these individuals are professionals with extensive experience of finance and pensions. The paper presents the results of a field experiment with employees of a leading life and pensions company in Spain. The results of the experiment show that financial literacy and awareness of the importance of saving are not enough for individuals to act. Even with pension plan experts, the combination of two types of instruments is necessary: rational instruments, such as financial literacy and awareness of the economic implications of retirement, and nudging, which moves individuals to action…

Epoxy resin/TiO2 nanocomposites prepared by both reactive suspension method, based on in situ synthesis, and conventional mechanical mixing are analysed by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance and transmission electron microscopy in order to have a deeper insight into the nature of interactions at the polymer/particle interface and their effect on the nanoparticles dispersion. Specifically, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance experiments showed that the nanoparticles, synthesized by reactive suspension method, can efficiently link the matrix by hydrogen bonds forming a hybrid organic-inorganic 3D network. Background: The influence of the potassium metal cation on the graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) photocatalyst has been studied in the partial oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) to 2,5-furandicarboxaldehyde (FDC). Damping of rotor conical whirl by asymmetric dry friction suspension

Abstract A new technique for the rotor whirl damping in rotating machinery, based on the elastic suspension of the journal boxes and the use of dry friction surfaces normal to the shaft axis between their supports and the frame, is here analysed theoretically for several cases of rotor systems characterized by mass and constraint asymmetry, where gyroscopic effects are to be expected and conical whirl motions may grow up. Using Dynamic Light Scattering for Monitoring the Size of the Suspended Particles in Wastewater

Abstract A coherent light scattering experiment on wastewater samples extracted from several stages of water processing within a wastewater processing plant was carried out. The samples were allowed to sediment while they were the subject of a Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) measurement. The recorded time series were processed using an Artificial Neural Network based DLS procedure to produce the average diameter of the particles in suspension. The method, using a single physical procedure for monitoring the variation of the average diameter in time, indicates the dominant type of suspensions in water.

Microstructural, mechanical and tribological properties of suspension plasma sprayed YSZ/h-BN composite coating

Abstract Brittleness, relative high friction coefficient and wear rate limit the applications of ceramic coatings as wear-resistant layers. However, because embedding additives with ceramic matrix has demonstrated to be an effective way to improve coating performances, different contents and size of h-BN were added into an YSZ suspension. Controlling thermal transport at the nanoscale is vital for many applications. Previously, it has been shown that this control can be achieved with periodically nanostructured two-dimensional phononic crystals for the case of suspended devices. Here, we show that thermal conductance can also be controlled with three-dimensional phononic crystals, allowing the engineering of the thermal contact of more varied devices without the need for suspension in the future. ABSTRACT Results simulation of magnetorheological suspension at particle level are reported. The present approach accounts for a better description of hydrodynamic interaction between close spheres. Development of lamellar structures similar to those obtained by other researchers in Poiseuille flow is observed in shear flow. Studies of single layer lamellar structures reveal presence of short chains and more complex aggregates.
