Comparative study of a whole-cell pertussis vaccine and a recombinant acellular pertussis vaccine.

The safety and immunogenicity of an acellular pertussis vaccine containing the genetically detoxified pertussis toxin PT-9K/129C, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin, together with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, were compared with those of a whole-cell pertussis component-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine. Four hundred eighty infants were enrolled into this prospective, multicenter, double-blind study. Each infant was randomly given three doses of one of the two vaccines at 2, 4, and 6 months of age. Plasma concentration following oral and intramuscular atropine in children and their clinical effects.

In a paediatric population, we compared i.m. v oral atropine premedication to a control group without atropine and determined atropine plasma concentrations (APC). Forty-five children were randomly assigned to one of three groups. Group I received atropine, 20 micrograms.kg-1 i.m., 15 min prior to induction. Group II received atropine, 30 micrograms.kg-1 orally, group III received no atropine. APC (expressed as percent of muscarine-2 receptor subtype occupancy), heart rate, rectal temperature, and salivation were determined before atropine, and 15, 25, 45, 60, 90, 120 (no APC), and 150 min following atropine. Introduction: This study was designed to assess the influence of chosen aspects of anorexia nervosa eating disorders (AN ED) on 13C-methacetin breath test (MBT) results. Material and methods: We investigated a group of 81 girls, including 41 patients with confirmed diagnosis of AN ED. The study group was divided in two subgroups. According to the DSM-5 classification, 25 underweight patients met the criteria of anorexia nervosa (AN), and 16 girls with BMI value > 5th percentile for age and sex were diagnosed as atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN). Aim: To investigate the link between H.pylori infection and dyspepsia in children, and association with reflux oesophagitis. Patients and Methods: H.pylori status was detected by rapid urease test and/or culture in 130 consecutive symptomatic children coming for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy: 40 – aged 8–12 years (55% boys); 90 – aged 13–18 years (21% boys). Panniculitis due to potassium bromide.

Potassium bromide again is well known to be surprisingly effective in patients with severe myoclonic epilepsy in infants (SME). Rare side effects on the skin reappeared, such as the febrile nodular panniculitis (Weber-Christian syndrome). In 1993 we described the first three cases of necrotizing panniculitis and introduced the term 'halogen panniculitis'. It is a systemic disease with crops of subcutaneous nodules, fever, elevated sedimentation rate, hepatosplenomegalia, and abdominal pain.
